Unhappy Looking for 88/89 block

Hi folks – due to a crack in the cylinder wall of the street car engine I am looking for an 88 or 89 block – I am going to sleeve the block so the cylinder walls can be junk! Please let me know if you can help me out.

I can't help you out with the block but I'm just wondering whats different about the 88/89 block? Is it the timing belt "auto" tensioner? I thought that started in 87?

Thanks,
Adrial

Yes, I'm curious too. Can you not just drill the early blocks ala Perry951 and install the spring tensioner. That and the oil pan/baffles are all that I understand is different.

Hmmm…..I am not sure I should say….at least until I get a replacement block!
OK, I’ll spill the beans. The 88/89 blocks have an improved oil passage configuration. The area where the oil passage from the main gallery to the crank was reworked to (hopefully) not add any aeration to the oil.
It’s a small difference, but if you want to throw a bunch of time, money and effort into a sleeved block HP motor why not start with the best available!
