Post I did it.

Preface:
I must confess, I did not get a PPI done, the advice given was the right advice, I just didn't have the extra cash on hand.
The Car:
The car is an 87 gaurds red turbo, it's a repaint and you can tell, overall though it's not to bad.
It's got the 928 wheels with get this, 245's on the front and 255's(16's) on the rear. Rear wiper inop. The interior with the exception of the dash and the front seats is pert near immaculate.
Interior:
The steering wheel or the wheels need aligned because the steering wheel is not centered. The parking brake is inop. cruise control is inop. Air conditioning needs a hose.
Needs a new temp sensor the current one pegs on start up.
The engine idles at 950rpm, .4 bar boost,
and 2 or 20 psi oil. Ignition might need some work. On initial start up idle stumbled a bit, very little to no exhaust smoke. I love the clutch pedal feel, I really dislike the sponge like shifting, I prefer a little more notchiness.
The test drive:
Felt like I got almost 2 stages of boost the 1st at 3 grand, the 2nd at 3500. Very strong pulls. Engine idle calmed a bit, my Dad and I pulled over and got the manual out and did some more walk arounds, almost all of the signal lenses to include headlights are cracked. Drove it back looked at the PO's prior receipts I looked at the car again and bought it.
$5900 out the door.
Mistake? Maybe. Could it be the bargain of the century? I doubt it. Will I have the possiblity of having a whole lot of fun fixing this car up to be the car I want it to be?? Tune in next year.
The ride home was a blast(about 100 miles).
I was following my parents and we came up on a semi, oncomming was clear so I down shifted to 3rd and.....well..........all I can say is wow.
Seemed like 3 seconds later I'm doing 90.
My Dad said when I passed the thing sounded awesome.
Right NOW I'm happy with the decision warts and all.
Tomorrow I'll be doing the fine tooth comb thing and start writing down all the little things that need to be done to the car, I'm sure I'll be able to throw a little more meticulus cleaning into her as well. I'll be taking all sorts of pics, I somehow want to be able to post them here tomorrow. Thanks to all for the advice and support, I hope to be able to contribute in the same way in the future, Thanks.
Regards, Picstr.

Welcome to boost-a-holics.... The feeling of that boost is just incredible....from 70mph on up they are just wicked fast over all these pedestrian mobiles that are on the road around you.

Coming off an on ramp that is one of those 25mph ramps and onto the Interstate with an almost non-existent merge lane it's fun to just drive it at the Interstate speed limit and there and drop right into traffic...hehe

Just amazing!

My car does the 2 step-idle jumpiness for a few seconds at startup sometime...I'm pretty sure I have a dirty/sticky idle stablizer and I plan on replacing the idle speed control o-ring as well to see if that settles it down when it decides to idle fast, otherwise it idles very nicely but a bit fast.

Congrats and enjoy it!!!

sounds like fun - you'll be amazed how expensive a lot of that stuff can be - but i'll offer you this, i've got a set of the euro fog/driving light combos that came off of my car, not cracked, perfect shape, had 'em for about 6mos, but can't re-use them on my new chassis because of where the oil-coolers are... PM me or email me and i'll make you an offer you can't refuse - one less cracked thing to replace, and an upgrade to boot

can't wait to see pics!

I had the very same semi experience when I picked up my 951 last August. 80 to 100 (and a pucker) in about 2-3 seconds. My son was in the backseat and said "do it again Daddy!," I didn't answer quickly because I was trying catch a breath. I don't recommend doing that with a child in the car, but WOW!!

Congratulations and welcome.

Thanks all, I'm still trying to figure out the car and what I need for the her.For my most important first fix I'm trying to figure out my temp gauge problem,(pegged on start-up) no idea if it's the sender or the ground, from what I've been reading I hope it's the sender cause I really don't want to go tearing apart the dash to find the ground.
I really need those hood shocks I'll probably be ordering those tomorrow. Oh and if anyone knows the name or part number of the 2 rear plastic pieces of the sunroof assembly I'd appreciate it. As soon as I can get a web page I'll post some detailed pics that will explain much more than I can describe. Thanks.
Regards, Picstr.

sunroof gears:944 564 430 00. Vertex has them for $8. Just find your favorite parts shop.

I (unfortunately) use a pair vise grips for the time being to hold the hood open.

I don't mind not having pictures.
