5 Butterfly manifold

5 Butterfly manifold
Just saw a new prototype manifold with 4 butterflies and another single one for 951 engine. Thats 5 butterfies for our engine. Sworn to secrecy where I saw it but it sure looked neat. Told this is nothing new for them, just new for 951 engine. First dyno tests are soon I'm told. If given further info, I will let everyone know. BTW, I was told it would be priced so that it coulod be afforded by most. Its appearance is nothing like anything else I've seen, except maybe Millige type. I've seen pics of Lindsey type. This one makes that look like "back yard' built.

I will. Hope I can take some pics to post. I have to be careful as I have already been given access to many things new and coming. BTW, if my earlier post was confusing, each engine (951) will have 5 butterflies, and I'm not talking about the stock one as # 5!.

I was hoping someone would come out with a multiple throttle body setup. One reason the Milledge setup is so expensive is that he uses barrel valves instead of butterflies - the barrel valves are very expensive - they're also a little overkill.

I don't know any of the ideas behind this manifold. I'm sure when it is all tested etc we will all know what it does. It sure looked trick. The one thing I would like to know is, where does the other single butterfly go. Its part of the whole "kit". And what does it do. What I saw was a manifold fitted with plumbing to the Intercooler. This manifold had the 4 butterflies, but there was another single one, (bigger) and it was not fitted to the manifold pipes. There was a cable from the main throttle linkage going to this butterfly. It was just hanging loose. I'm sure I was not mean't to see this. Kind of been at the right place at the wrong time.

I live in LA. I'm really puzzled to what the 5th butterfly does. was it put there to throw me off? But I was not supposed to go into this room.
Does anyone have any ideas.

Not knowing their exact set-up, but having used individual butterflys on EFI motorcycles here is my guess.
The manifold is used for higher hp while keeping airflow as high as possible to the butterflys. keeping butterflys close to the engine keep air velocity high resulting in improved throttle response.
Just my guess though...

Simon: asking us to tell you how a supposed prototype intake is designed is sort of like asking me to explain how the stealth bombers are put together. I don't understand why someone would "try to confuse you" or how a 5th throttle could be not hooked up to the intake.... your posts make me generally very confused.

Where I saw it really does not matter, as I was not supposed to, I'm sure. But what isthis "spare butterfly for. I have thought about this until it hurts. where and what are they doing with 4 in the manifold an another linked by a cable to the manifold linkage? Maybe I was a little early or late with my visit. BTW, I did ask them today, but they won't tell me, and they even had the nerve to act like it (the manifold) didn't exist. Now that really tweaked my interest.

If "they" are acting to you like it didn't exist, then why are you being so covert about it? If "they" dont tell you something like "please don't tell people about this until its released" but rather deny "it"s existance then i don't know who your defending and why.
maybe its a plot by our government to take attention away from the fact that they didn't find any chemical weapons

9M on the 968.net discussion list is making a nice unit for the 968's. I'm positive if there was enough interested that they could make the proper intake manifolds for the 8V 944/951 engine.
I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make though.
I've got this that was built for a 951 (the photo looks horrible... the piece looks actually pretty good in person):

I've often thought about installing it on my 951, but don't have the time to mess with it.
