Question PCA club racing a 944T - weight reduction

I ran in my first PCA club race last weekend at TWS. My car is an '87 951 that currently weighs 3037 lbs. It's over the minimum weight of 2998 because of the roll cage, seat brace, etc. I have replaced the stock seats with Recaro SPG and Pole Position. I'm using 16" Club Sport wheels and want to keep using them, rather than going to lighter wheels. I have replaced the exhaust with SFR straight-thru stuff. I haven't replaced the battery yet, though. Any other ideas for legal weight reduction?

Is this it?

If not, I'd like to get a copy. I'm always looking for more accurate information to add to mine.
Thanks,
DanD

Hi Mark, beware of the rules, lots of ways to drop some weight, but if you are in a stock class which I imagine ..you must be in E class club racing...In a prepared car...you will not be able to go air conditioning delete by rules, let me know if you have any other questions, but in the stock classes , the radio, speakers, light carpet in the rear, lexan winshield is probably it....

GTracer,

I knew about the AC not being legal to delete since it was stock on my car. And you are right, I'm in E class prepared. I had to put the AC condenser back in before I went club racing.

Thanks,
Mark

Ok, then I'll make my plug for more accurate weights. I've found so far 'estimates' are high, especially from GT racing. For example, the stock hood only weighed about 50lbs, not 79lbs, the stock battery I weighed was 35 pounds.

If anyone has pulled out seats, carpet, AC or whatever, I'd like to hear what that stuff actually weighed. Derrick at Huntley said they stripped all the undercoating off the car and ended up with about 100lbs in a trash can where they saved it all. It's a lot of work, but I'm still thinking about it. That and the junk inside the car under the carpet. That stuff is heavy. Modern lightweight insulation pads would be the sound/heat control at about 5 lbs for the whole interior (or the parts that matter).

Fiberglass hood, no rear seat back, fiberglass racing seats, no spare, no carpet, no tools. Add 75# for roll bar. 2900# <img border="0" alt="[burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

hi Mark,

You are close to the legal weight, only 30 lbs or so. How much fuel
was in the car when you weighed it? Remember that 1 gallon of
fuel is APPROXIMATELY (I don't want to start another war) is 5 lbs.

If you still have the catalytic converter and / or muffler, those are
pretty heavy. You can also replace the rear bumper with fiberglass.

I have to keep at least 1/4 tank of fuel in my car to make weight.

Hey Mark,

I was at that club race as well, I was not driving but acting as pit crew for a couple of friends running G class 911s. Were you in the green run group ? Which car were you driving ? I might have some pics for you if your interested.

Cheers,
OZ951
