Default Grand Prix - The Killing Years

I watched this video last night and can't get it out of my mind. It is amazing to see what these guys went through and how the sport has developed.
The second video is about 1 hr. but well worth watching.

I'll have to remember this on Memorial Day, should have time to watch all of it.

I saw "Love the Beast" with Eric Bana recently which was a pretty good car movie.

No kidding. Very graphic. You really feel bad for what they went through. I could not even imagine a 2 out of 3 chance of death.

What!
If we could only be so lucky as to die doing something we love. People die working fourteen hours a day doing something they hate, and resenting the life they live. Imagine the sweet taste of death as you cross the finishline, with people cheering and exhaulting your name, feeling the adrenaline flow though you, before you die.
No, what you will more than likely hear is some hag telling you to get up and throw the trash, as the stress in your life gives you a heart attack.

That is all, I have to go throw the trash...

A step back in time to show the future is not so dismal, same change is being applied to todays warfighters. Who knows, tomorrow we may be friends with Mother Nature.

I guess based on that logic, 2 out of every 3 tree will have to be cut down in the entire world before we change.

I was refering to the safety aspects. In 'the old days', we screamed at every change ... 'it's not racing if your life isn't on the line' - WRONG, todays racing is way closer to the edge of the envelope, and the guys who screw-up, or are unlucky, just lose positions. Now we protect every soldier in the field with training, tactics and body armor, - catch the new 'Gettysberg' show this weekend and tell me personal safeties not a good idea! Mother Nature is not going to change her plans, if people would quit living in towns 10 feet below sea level, quit putting Nuclear Reactors on the beach and in fault zones, and maybe build houses with concrete basements in tornado alleys, we could get along better. By the way, we HAVE cut down 2 out of every 3 trees, but we are leaving that for our kids to deal with.

Amazing video - I'm glad I watched it. We lost so many good drivers and heroes in that era.
