I GOT 40 HP FROM RACE FUEL / IS THAT NORM?
well i put 104 race fuel in the car with an empty tank last week and filled it with 10 gallons of $4.50 per gallon of racing only fuel from a delta sonic car wash/ gas pump station... (i wasnt expecting anything really different, maybe just a smoother idle or reduced carbon deposits), after hit the road and got on the gas.. HOLY **** my damm car flew like it had 500 hp, it never went so good, its like i added about 40 rear horses, and the boost came on sooner like 2800-3000 rpms for full boost with my kkk29#8 turbo... Is this normal with racing gas? its like i had nitrous, how come the 104 gas adds so much power? is my car in need of a different chip program or more fuel from my injectors to run like this all the time without 104 octane or not, it seems that maybe i need bigger than 52 pound injectors to realize the cars full potential? is this normal to get so much power from highly moded motors with big turbos and high boost settings? my car is set to peak at 22 psi and then falls to 20 at full boost... god i love this car

thanks for the input, what do i do? i do get 350 rear wheel horses now but i dont know if im giving it enough fuel? injectors do i need bigger or what else? i have my timing set at -3 degrees on the dme switch and arc2 set so im rich at full boost, maybe i need a new chip program? or its that i need more fuel to match the air of the turbo output..

You retard timing a bunch (like 10-15 degrees...)or turn down boost.
The KLR is already retarding timing because it is sensing knock...but you're better off not getting knock at all...
Also don't trust a a/f gauge...you need to get on a dyno that will give you a graph from a wideband O2 sensor.

20psi (HR Stage 3), 2.5L, 72# injectors, 91% duty cycle near redline in my car. If I ran 52# injectors, it'd be really lean!

how much pressure do you run on your FPR?

Tecart,
Are you making the extra 40hp at the same settings??? : o Are you tuning on a dyno? I make 365whp on pump gas 404whp on race gas. I would never run my max boost on pump gas! At least not very long! With RACE GAS I can safely run up to 1.8bar.
That's with a 2.5 bar reg. and 550cc injectors.

Very interesting results. My local gas station is bringing in 100 octane and I'm anxious to see if there is a difference?

Any negative side effects? Never been able to get higher than 92 octane in this town.
For those in Denver, the station is the Tech Center Sinclair on the NorthEast corner at I-25 and Belleview.

My understanding is that higher octane does not produce more hp unless the fuel has a higher kilacalorie potential. If you are getting more hp from higher octane,it is probably because of timing being retarded so much and the higher octane allows less retard of timing.

[quote] If raising the octane of your fuel results in more power, than your timing is being significantly retarded by the computer because of detonation with the lower octane fuel.

No kidding?
