Default Transmission loss????

Why is it such a general or unknown number? Surely there is a way of narrowing this right down within 2-5%, maybe lower. I have seen or spoken to people quoting anywhere between 10%-50%. I know that the friction losses will be hard to determine but is the Factory correct at 32% ?

Discuss.

Every make of car is going to have a different loss percentage, as different transmissions, tyres/ tail shafts/ Cv's etc will have a different efficiency. It would be very hard to narrow down that percentage of loss as an average number for all cars.
the only way we could find out is to have your engine dynoed on tillys engine dyno then re install it your car and have them now dyno it on their chassis dyno. there is another problem as every chassis dyno reads completly different then your percentage loss number would only be applicable to that chassis dyno.

Up at that dyno they just work the tranny loss off what a new car reads on the dyno and use the manufacturer's figures as a base, but it's only going to be a guide.
