Bearing coking and smoking have nothing to do with each other.

Coking of the oil will trash the bearing, and result in a turbo that malfunctions.

The smoking is the result of the lack of any real sealing device.

Since your turbo is water cooled, it's almost impossible to coke the oil within the turbo.

And... the oil had nothing to do with it either.

The problem is that your turbo has a dynamic seal (if you want to call it that). In reality, there's no actual seal, but a piston ring type seal, that does a pretty crappy job sealing. Furthermore, that "seal" wasn't even designed to seal oil getting out, but rather exhaust pressure getting in.

Luke,

I have results for a #10 Stage 3 witha 60-1. Backpressure is not too bad. But can be improved!

On my Eclipse last year I ran a 60-1, worked best from 30-32psi, at that it would trap 145mph though the 1/4, at 25psi it would do 135-137mph, just to show what 5-7 psi of boost would do with that wheel. I run the GT30 wheel now and at 32psi it went 146mph, but that wheel needs 35psi to make big power. Back in the day I really liked the 50 trim wheel, tons of broad torque, my AWD could spin tire into third gear with all that torque, but the top end choked at 28 psi only mustering 134mph. I know it's a 2.0 DSM motor but it shows the difference in turbos.

IS your DSM a 2ltr still, or a 2.29? , 2.4?

i'm watching my buddy build a 2.0ltr rally car w/ 8.8:1 and a big 16g. i think he will see 380hp even with the 34mm cork.

fun cars

the intake ports on that 1G head are monsterous.

Still a 2.0l, just 8.5-1 Ross pistons and Crower Rods.
