Post Jacking up the rear of a 951

Is it safe to use the bottom of the transmission as a jacking point to lift the rear of a 951? I know the shop manual indicates you should use the side bosses behind the rear wheels...but can you damage the transmission by using that?

When I need to get both rear wheels off the ground I almost always jack the car up on the transmission. I use a block of wood so the jack doesn't damage the case, and place the jack on the lowest point on the trans inbetween the drive axels. This has never hurt anything and my Dad (who has been involved with Porsche's for about 30yrs) says it's very safe and will not harm the transmission at all. I cannot get to the trans with the jack when the car is on the ground (too low) so I first have to lift up one side. HTH

It's probably OK to jack from this point, but I wouldn't leave pressure there for too long.

You won't hurt the transaxle, but it is mounted to the chassis w/ a single rubber mount, which can become deformed or cracked. It wasn't designed to take force in that way.

The book says not to, though
