GURU Stage1 MAP install... HARD?
Gday fellas, i am very tempted at the moment to pop my order in at GURU, and get a Stage 1 MAP kit sent to Downunder. However i am very average under the hood and am wondering if this kit is a bit of a Brainer to install. the last thing i want to see is a tow truck outside ready to haul my "precious" off the shop.

I would estimate between 2-5 hours for the average home mechanic. You can ask the guys who've installed our Stg.1 kits on their cars:

Jason_86_951 - <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=002669" target="_blank">MAP Stg.1 feedback</a>
Dwayne Williams - <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=003025" target="_blank">minor install problem</a>
I think Dwayne should very proud of himself. This was probably the most difficult job he's tackled on his car to date? And he came through with flying colors! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I'd say get it - I'm quite the happy camper with my GURU Stage I kit. Prior to this I've pretty much stuck to simple tasks like oil changes, radiator flush, etc... Here's the areas I had trouble with:
- Removing stock airbox. I have big hands and getting down to all the little bolts was trouble. Especially the front left side bolt. If you can get a helper with small hands should be no trouble.
- Make sure you pick the right wires and read the directions carefully.
- Leaning down into the passenger footwell to tap into the wires. Sometimes you need 3 hands to hold the flashlight, crimp the wire, etc... A good shop light would alleviate a lot of the hassle here.
And that's about it. Not really that hard at all. Probably took me 5 hours total including troubleshooting. If I'd tapped the right wire the first time it wouldn't have taken that long. The kit really isn't hard to install at all.
I would recommend you have good set of metric wrenches and sockets if you don't already though.

I didn't have any problems with the air box removal. In fact that was a snap, but it was made a lot easier by removing the black pipe on the left side of the intercooler to make room for getting tools to the left side of the air box.
The most difficult part for me was getting the wastegate out to put the shims in. It's never been removed from the car and of course the bolts were all frozen in. I gave up after 15-20 minutes. In my old age I don't have the patience for problems like that any more. I ending up letting my local Porsche mechanic do that part.
I'm still wrestling with overboost problems and I need instructions on how to dial back the Relia-boost (Hint, hint Danno and Travis).

Danno I bought the kit and it just showed up at my house. I have not opened it yet so I do not know if it came with directions. A while ago I heard something about a mailing list of intallation instructions, and I have not recieved an email yet. Please send the install procedure to MWN25@msn.com , if the instructions are in the package, then just ignore me

I spoke on the phone with Travis today and got instructions on adjusting the Relia-Boost. See my post in the Forums section of the Guru Racing Web site, under "Product Support".
