Yes because if the EPA finds out a shop did it, they will also get fined.

FTW, you gotta get one of these. The only way anyone is going to know if your cat is fake, is to take apart your exhaust pipe!

I am surprised they're selling this. I looked into building O2 sensor simulators for LSx based cars back in the late 90s and found out I could be fined by the EPA for every unit sold since it was an emissions tampering/defeat device.

The EPA doesn't mess around. CARB is even worse.

When my exhaust shop did my cat delete he said "cash only and if you get caught I have never seen you before" Granted, I live in Florida, nobody cares about emissions.

buying prefabbed pipes isn't necessary. you might benefit from running a resonator in there in front of the bridge.

a shop can bend the pipes for a complete exhaust in about an hour and change.

Skip the muffler shops, it isn't worth the hassle. If you want to cut the cat out and weld in a straight pipe, take it to a race shop (best to just drop out the cat pipe and take it in sans car. Tell them the vehicle is a track only car. Done.

The EPA doesn't mess around with this kind of stuff.... however, it would be very difficult to enforce.

The guy at your emissions place would have to start something. Usually, (here anyway), if the smog dude suspects anything strange, he can alert the DMV. They will mail a card saying you have to report to the DMV test station and have an official state emissions test. They will inspect your car, and run it their test. If it passes....the ordeal is over. If it doesn't...then I'm not sure what happens

In the end, if your car passes emissions, anything you do shouldn't be a problem... unless its very visually obvious.

I could not find one for $250. Tried to get one used and finally bit the bullet.

Yeah, I was just trying to see if the OP had a link.

The best I can find is $359 for stainless, but it's 2.5.

that's such a stupid price for that. somebody should just start welding them up and selling them for $200. and a full exhaust for that matter. the fabspeeds are really overpriced as well.

Once again, this isn't the honda world with tons of aftermarket. Don't expect to be able to buy $50 cheap Chinese SS exhaust. The 951 market isn't huge so retailers don't sell large quantities and therefore can't sell them for stupid cheap. If you think you can make it for cheaper and still make money more power to you. It's simple economics though.

If you want the cheapest exhaust buy the LR mild steel exhaust or take it to an exhaust shop and have them make a crush bent system. As far as a test pipe goes, remove the one on the car, cut out the cat, find a welder on craigslist and pay them $20...job done.

If you've got a welder, grinder and a jack + stands. your test pipe will cost as much as the 2.5" tube will set you back.

my test pipe was free.

For those of you that think you can simply cut out the cat and weld in a piece of 2.5" straight pipe and have the equivalent of "Bursch Test Pipe"..... you obviously are new to modifying 951's.

The answer would be no... it's not the same. Not even close. And you won't enjoy the power gains you will (no where close) or spool gain that you would see with a Burcsh test pipe (or any other real test pipe setup).

Please make sure you know what you are talking about before you give advice.

The super deal is gregeast's Bursch test pipe at $200. That's what you should buy. And yes... I do know what I'm talking about :-)

Yea I have a Bursch in the shop waiting to be installed and from looking at the OEM exhaust the Bursch will flow much better.

Now the cat back portion is (from what I have read) rather easy to fab up.
