Post Fuel pressure gauge

Since I've had to replace a regulator that was faulty only at WOT (100#) and took forever to diagnose I would like to have a pressure gauge in the cockpit. I seem to be having big trouble locating such a beast....probably looking in the wrong places.

Anyone with such an installation that could point the way?

I am personally not in favor of fuel pressure gauges inside the car unless it is a track car or only if it is electrical by pressure transducer. Track or street?

IF you have to have it I would go with a s.s. liquid filled one from Powerhaus. I would also go with 1/4" or 6mm s.s. tubing or Earls braided hose in an-4 or -6 and use their compression fittings.

You might try and email Turbo Tim - Spped Force Racing( Tim Richards @ timer1@home.com or www.speedforceracing.com )

I'd only consider an electric sending unit.
I think tubing/piping would be asking for trouble.

I found some at egauges.com

A couple of them MUST do more than give pressure since they are OVER $200!!!!!

Pretty pricey! Wondering if you can't just use an oil-pressure gauge instead. Those seem to be a lot cheaper and I can't imagine the sensor knows the difference between oil and fuel. You'll just have to put a post-it note on the gauge that says "fuel pressure" that's all!

After ushering in the New Year properly we had that exact discussion:

How do it know????

Can anyone offer a reason NOT to try it?

Ok found it in the Summit Racing catalog!

Intellitronix 2-1/16" electrical fuel-pressure gauge.

#ITC-K704 0-100psi $29.95

#ITC-TH8434 15-100psi sender $39.95

Now that's a lot better than $200!

Well I searched in the catalog and couldn't find it. Went to their website and searched with the product number and......"no longer available".

I guess they just substituted the $200 ones!

Been there, done that.

Summit carries the digital gauge but they
don't have any nor do they have any delivery
date!

Don't know if N will deal direct, but
web shows double Summits price.

Besides, if I'm going to have to look at
the gauge while doing 5000rpm I'd rather
search for a pointer than process the
info from 2 digits!

Yeah, but what happens when you find that pointer? You have to process TWO sets of 2-digits and interpolate where you are in between them!

You have an indication of what you have, know wheather you are short or not, which is exactly what you want. No digital for me.

As for the sender: there is a difference between oil and petrol: the petrol is flamable.
Consequently the sender has to be fed with power via an set of zener barriers that limit the current (or better the energy supply) to the sender.
I think the $200 is not bad if all this is is included in the kit.
Take care & be carefull!!!!

Yeah, but where you get the NUMBER that represents your fuel-pressure? You still have to read a digit somewhere right?

One of the things I like about analog pointer gauges is that you can sense the RATE OF CHANGE of the pointer (velocity). So things like RPM and SPEED are easy to gauge with an analog meter. Indicators that don't change too quickly are fine with digital I think. But I prefer to have my monitoring gauges like fuel-pressure, oil-pressure & temp, wate, tranny, etc. all rotated to that the pointer is straight up at normal operating conditions. That way one quick sweep of the gauges without reading any numbers will tell my the condition of the car. Any gauge that's not vertical, then can garner a little more attention...

I just bought an elecronic Autometer gauge. It comes with a pressure transducer that taps into the end of your fuel rail (1/8" NPT fitting), wires that route into your car, a control box that you mount under the dash, and wires that route into the gauge. It's pretty slick actually. You can choose from 6 different colours/styles. I went for the full sweep gauge (more accurate), but it wasn't cheap at $300CAN. That's about $200US. It'll be a lot easier to monitor fuel pressure from inside the car now. I used to hate popping the hood and shimmying out the window at 60mph to read my little VDO gauge on the fuel rail!!

I was thinking do they make a sending unit that would measure the fuel presure and send that in air presure to the gauge in the car? I think that would be a safe way to put a gauge in the car.
