Post waste gate advice

hello everyone, well wastegates....hmmmm what is it? what does it do? and what the hech is shimming it and what it does to the car? i noticed that i cannot keep boost up. i can get the boost at bout 1.75 iaw the dash guage, but by the time i shift it drops and it takes a few seconds for it to kick back in.

the wastegate is a mechanism that takes signal pressure air from the turbo, and at a set point, releases the pressure via a spring through the turbo down pipe, and out the exhaust, preventing the turbo from spooling itself too high and causing damage to itself or your engine. "shimming" the wastegate usually strengthens the notoriously weak spring inside the 951 wastegate, so that it doesnt open with too little pressure, causing turbo lag. if you're running the stock gate, you're probably losing pressure the faster you go. hope i could help.

what can i do to slow it down? i have manual boost controller i got from huntley racing. can u school me on how to shim the waste gate?
