Unhappy alarm

hi everyone
im glad to join rennlist. i just purchased a 1987 951. very happy - except for my recent problem that started when i had an alarm installed.i just read a a similar problem form another member. maybe someone can help ?
after installing my alarm i have problems starting the car. sometimes it starts sometimes it does not!. the car cranks but does not turn over. im thinking to have the alrm disconneted first to trouble shoot this problem rather than spend more money changing parts like the igniton coil, ign switch etc. could anyone offer any assistance. thank you ![LIST] wdoublev@msn.com

I am having a similar problem, which I think is associated with the alarm and my new stereo. Keep me informed if you make any progress. Also if you run across any design schematics for the alarm system let me know.

Thanks,

I would definately have that alarm checked out by the shop that did the install. Some of those guys can be pretty sloppy and the way they put in splices can be shorts waiting to happen everytime you go over a bump. Does your alarm have a provision to disable the ignition? If it does there is a good chance you just found your problem.

One other thing. If your alarm has a provision to lock the doors if it thinks someone is messing with it never leave your keys inside the car. I did once at a battery shop when changing out the battery. The car locked itself and my spare set of keys were 30 miles away with no one around to pick them up.
