(UPDATE) Last year for the emissions sniffer (FAILED)
Damn...last year I passed with plenty of room to spare. This year it failed the NOX by twice the standard. Last year test pipe...this year test pipe. Different chipset this year for the larger turbo.
argh...I only have 8 months to go and the car hits 25 years old and no more emissions testing
Not sure what to do and sure don't want to plumb a cat in for 8 months.
I've heard of non emission counties though I'm afraid that could be sticky.

Nox is high combustion temps I believe? Do you have a piggy back or WB O2? What is your AFR at idle? Should be 14.7. if it's leaner than that I think that's going to push the NOX up, richer and I think the HC's would go up.
If you have relatives in the non compliance counties maybe you can register the car there?

Well 14.7 is good, I thing advanced ignition timing will drive up NOX also so it's most likely the chips. Is it your only car can you just park it and let the clock run out?

haha...no not my only car. I work for a dealer so I thought of black tags for the next eight months! I have another end around that may work. Also had some suggestions PM'd to me.

Cool hope it works out. No smog is why we live in Dayton and not Carson City proper! Bout 15 miles from Carson City. I seem to be the only 951 around these parts!

My 924S failed the first round nearly every year, then I'd run a one of those little red bottles of emissions stuff (RPX or something?) through the tank and pass with flying colors the next week... not sure if that would help with your situation, but I thought I'd throw it in.

Not sure of the settings for the chipset you're running but on the stock chips (and my Vitesse chipboard) you add or substract timing and fuel with the FQS on the DME. My understanding is that retarding the timing will help with NOX.
I'd suggest posting up your numbers, there are those on the board far more knowledgeable than I on how to tune for emissions but they'll need to know the numbers to help.
This site has a good write-up on FQS settings, click on the link in the upper left.
Edit: I lied, you can pull timing but not advance it with the FQS
