86 951 problems please help... gauge cluster, headlights, turbo
#16
Crawled under the car in hopes of finding where the oil level sensor goes. No luck. I did some searching on here. From what i've read the 86 oil pan doesn't have an oil level sensor. I guess now m questions is why is the oil level sensor even present on my 86?

well after cleaning the dg and bg sensors still no tach and speedo. as far as the oil level sensor, any objections to bridging something within the circuit to trick the sensor?

Are u sure the oil light isn't the oil pressure light? Oil pressure sender is next to the oil filter. My brothers 85 na tach and speedo didn't work when he first got it. Cleaned all his grounds and they worked fine.
The two pics above are normal. Maybe skmeone else can tell u what they are for.

normal to be unplugged? I learned the gauge cluster is from a 88 na, and the dle and klr are out of an 88 turbo, could this be creating some of the mentioned problems. does anyone have the correct pinouts for the 88 na cluster

Pinout is here:

If it is a na dash, get a turbo dash. It is a little different. I am sure if you posted a WTB thread you could get one at a fair price.

The brown wires are ground and there is a couple under the drivers side dash. In one of the pics u posted there r some grounds by drivers headlight. I would clean all grounds that u find

The red and black connectors in the second picture are the key to your gauge problems. It looks like you have a late DME harness in an early car. You will need the wiring diagrams from an '86 and an '87 to sort this out. The red connector leads to the tach and boost gauges, the black is from the DME harness.
The speed sensor with the hole in it should be replaced, and you need to the get both sensors mounted properly with the correct spacers and clearance to the ring gear. This has nothing to do with the tach signal since the engine runs, but can cause all sorts of running issues.

ah gee, this doesn't sound like fun. found this, but where exactly to i go from here?
Try this:
8 pin connector 1988
1 - White/Green - Fuel Consumption Meter - DME Pin 11
2 - Green/Black - Ignition Pulses - Tacho - DME 21 & KLR 9
3 - Blue - Boost Gauge - KLR 5
4 - Brown - Earth - Boost Gauge
5 - Black/Green - +12v switched - not used
6 - not used
7 - Black - +12v power - Diagnostic plug Engine bay & passenger footwell
8 - White/Yellow - Oil Level switch sump - dash light
4 Pin Connector 1986
1 - White/Green - Fuel Consumption - DME 11
2 - Green/Black - Ignition Pulses - Tacho - DME 21 & KLR 9
3 - Red/White - Boost Gauge - KLR 5
4 - Brown - Earth - Boost Gauge

did both of those connectors plug into the old dme? and if so, i assume i would have to find the corresponding pins between the two connectors and splice them into the dme harness. is this correct? if this is false, where/what do these even plug into?
