Red face Help - I'm gonna fry!!

My car has AC (which doesn't work very well) but for some reason I am getting constant hot air out of the vents, the AC wont switch on and the window demister doesnt work. I realised this was probably a fuse and replaced it the other day which sorted everything. Its now blown again so now I'm wondering why...? Just wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction or had a similar problem.

We're experiencing some rare sunshine here in London and I'm roasting!!

It sounds like you have multiple problems if i am reading your post correctly. If the AC clutch is going out it will cause the fuse to keep blowing when you switch it on. If you are getting constant hot air check the clip first. It is just above the drivers foot area. You have to remove 2 screws, pull off the cover and look to see if a little white plastic clip that holds a threaded arm is broken, it is very common and a $2 part that has caused many a 944 driver to sweat their ba77s off.

There is also a small check valve on the rear of the engine, with a larger rubber hose, and a vacuum line. It has a plastic lever sticking out of it attached to the actuator that can become stuck or stiff. A squirt of lube and some vigorous loosening can work wonders if the interior clip isnt your problem.

Probably the clip.

its a small white one that had/has a metal rod hanging onto it. hard to see but keep looking.

This clip could be the culprit as I think the problem coincided with when I removed the glovebox to change the clock (my car is right hand drive of course) so perhaps I damaged it removing/replacing the glovebox... I'll check tonight. Many many thanks guys!

One thing... Is this clip only to do with the AC or does it control air temp even with the AC off? Also would this cause the fuse to keep blowing?

Just wanted to say thanks. I took my glovebox out last night and found that the air-con pipe which takes cool air to the glovebox was trapped against the lever which moves when you adjust the cabin temp, this must have blown the fuse when I tried to adjust it. I even had time to repair my rear spoiler which had worked loose! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Thanks!!

I've seen several posts about blown A/C related fuses and am curious. Are there any "inline" fuses that may be located at places other than the central fuse box?

My A/C clutch seems to be inoperable, but fuses in box are fine. Should I also be looking for fuses elsewhere?

Check two things:

Is voltage going to the clutch, one wire easy to check.

Is the system charged? if it isn't above a certain preasure, the clutch will not engage
