Pistons and rods?
Who would be the best company to go for... in order to get the best pistons possible...
"Yeah, JE has quite a market for pistons. But the issue is the correct matching of surfaces. Their aluminum pistons likes to ride against steel/iron, hence the sleeves. Our Porsches are the other way around with aluminum bores which requires an iron coating on the piston itself."
I read this on a previous post and was curious as to what to do... im also looking at billet rods
<a href="http://www.pauter.com" target="_blank">www.pauter.com</a> anyone have or tried these yet?
Thanks

The JE pistons are better for racing motors as they are lighter and reduce reciprocating weight. What are you trying to accomplish with the new pistons? The OEM Mahle pistons are extreamly durable. Unless you are looking to change compression or want a race setup why change?
On the West coast we like Carillo rods as they are a local vendor. (in fact thier facility is 1 block away from my office here in San Clemente.) Plan on waiting 4-6 weeks for delivery then bend over and grab your knees when you write the $2600 check! I heard the Pauter rods may be a little less expensive.

A used set of '86 rods will be just fine.
As for the mods, chips, wastegate, MBC, and a boost gauge will keep you happpy for a while. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

I have the 86 forged rods and factory pistons in my car with 346 hp on the rear. I used the Pauter rods in my 93 RSA. They've been in that car for 3 years now and no problems.

I just got prices from Pauter and Carrillo. Stock rods for a 944 Turbo would be $900 a set from either place. Carrillo custom size rods - like for a 968 turbo would be a little more - $1100. That's their retail price, they sell them to shops for significantly less.
