How many of you use LBE or similar for a boost controler?
Is there anything bad about using a Boost Enhancer or the like as a boost controller to increase boost...say to about 16psi?
Any thoughts or experience is appreciated. Thanks

I like my LBE. I'd say it's worth the $100.

The only problem with increasing the boost to 16psi is that 16psi is a spike.. I'd rather add a few psi over the entire RPM range than just as a spike in the beginning.
It's fun either way, but more predictable if it's increased evenly.

I've run a LBE for about two years, and while I like the performance (read faster spool), I don't like its inconsistency at holding boost. If you read the literature from Lindsay, the LBE is not designed as a boost controller. Therefore, I would say if you want a manual boost controller, buy one. If you want quicker spool up the LBE works great. It prevents the boost leak at 2-3 psi that you get with the factory wastegate.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't using an LBE alone to increase boost be very dangerous because you don't have recalibrated chips and/or an adjustable FPR to prevent detonation? Aren't the stock chips only good for 14psi?

With stock chips, I suppose there is potential for problems like detonation if you exceed the stock 10psi setting of the LBE.
With aftermarket chips that account for such alterations, you could safely increase beyond the stock 10psi setting. Keep in mind that as mentioned on the Lindsey website, you need to give a 5psi cushion to allow for the time needed for blocked airflow to suddenly make its way to the wastegate diaphragm.
As mentioned earlier, increasing the setting too much will result in a spiking effect that can achieve greater boost, but come on suddenly and leave just a suddenly.
The LBE's design is not so much intended to allow you to control the maximum amount of boost, but too allow maximum boost to be achieved at an earlier RPM.
The inability of the LBE to "hold" boost is most likely has nothing to do with the LBE and can probably be attributed to the design of the stock wastegate.

I may be getting boost pressure and wastegate control pressure (the pressure acting on the LBE, or on the wategate - I'm not sure) confused because I think they are different. However the main point being that stock boost pressure on a 951 (non S) is .8 bar which equates to 11.6 psi, not 15 psi. So if the LBE needs a 5 psi "cushion" then the LBE should be set to open at 7 psi. There was a recent thread where a guy stated he contacted Lindsey and they stated just that.
I don't know how to insert links for other posts, but it was entitled "LBE intalled, getting weird readings " and it was in the 924/931/944/951/968 Forum. Below is the relevant text:

I've go a question about the stock boost gauge. I've seen people saying normal atmospheric pressure is 1 bar, but my car usually runs well below that when I'm cruising. Does that mean I'm normally running a vacuum? I guess that would make sense as in n/a cars the air is being drawn in by the pistons,right? If I'm running 2 bar wfo with my lbe, what is that in psi?

I run Weltmeister stg 2 chips with LBE at about 15-16 psi with not det/knock problems. If you are worried, set your FQS (Fuel Quality Switch) to position 7 which ads about 6% more fuel to make you feeel safer about knock.

John, 1 bar (~14.5 psi) is a little under 1 atmosphere (@14.7 psi). Many people think they are the same, but they aren't. And remember 1 ATM is the average pressure at sea level; your elevation will lower the pressure and weather will move pressure quite a bit.
If you are not on the turbo you will be running well below 1 bar as your intake is in vacuum condition.

Never mind. Got off my lazy *** and did a search of the forum. Sure enough found a thread that covered it. Is this the switch we who have Guru Racing chips set to determine what maps to run when we change injectors, etc?
