Can Torque Tube Be Remove w/ rear T-bars still in the car??
After looking at it a while I don't think I can take my torque tube out of the car without removing either the gas tank or rear suspension torsion bar housing.
Is there a why to get it out? or is it easiest to just take out the rear t-bar housing?
I have to replace/rebuilt the tube due to a bad bearing and a wobble in the drive shaft.
Thanks

Yea, just drop the tranny and unbolt it. Takes some work, but you do not need to remove the rear suspension.
Not sure if there is a write up anywhere, but you can follow the clutch removal procedure to get you close.

Perry,
I have the clutch out and have moved the tube back as far as it can go. Right now it is right up next to the plasic gas tank. Based on the length of the tube. It does not look like I can get it out due to size of bell housing. I assume that it would have to come out from back bell housing first. I have rotated the bell housing around and don't see how way to get it out.
I guess I still don't see it! <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I think Perry must have mis-read your post. While you can change the clutch without dropping the torsion bar carrier, you can't fully remove the torque tube with it in place. I asked the same question on the board a couple of weeks ago and that's the answer I got.

When I changed my torque tube the exhaust and the suspension were lowered and the transaxle and shift rod were removed. I did have to unbolt the shocks and unhook brake lines. Got a great previously enjoyed tube from Ian's for less than a couple hundred delivered. Bill

yeah, you'll have to unbolt and lower the torsion bar housing to get it out. At that point, you may as well completely remove the rear suspension from the car instead of fighting around it.
