Post 944 Turbo Upgrades?

I need some suggestions. I'm interested in upgrading my Turbo and Wastegate. I currently have a MAF, test pipe. What bolt on items should I consider. Any info would be helpful. TIA

As much as i love my LR wastegate though. .......

I am about to purchase a MAF from a company called Modern Performance. They advertise in Grass Roots Motorsports but i dont know any body who uses them.?!?

There kit looks exactly like Lindesy's
it includes
-the Sensor
-filter
-and adjustments for WOT and idle ( just like Lindsey)
-the temp sensor is in normal position (again same as Linds.)

But.....it cost a grand LESS

$575 www.modernperformance.com
I'll let everybody know if it is worth it

How much of a difference was your stock wastegate compare to the Lindsey wastegate in performance, did you feel a difference? thanks for your response

HOnestly........when i bought my car i think the stock wastegate was almost dead.(punctured diaphragm) THe car was ungodly fast. Everyone including the 951 owner mechanic i went to said that the car was not stock.....i later found that i was producing around 20 lbs. and some how not hitting a fuel cutoff...

As soon as the KLR started working as it should have. I put in the LR wastegate. I make full boost @ 2900 rpm..(3 in exhaust though).

But it made boost that soon before also.. I am i bad source i guess.

Yes, please let us all know about that MAF- even after buying chips somewhere separately, that should save you at least $600... That sounds nice!!!

Lukesilver,

What was wrong with your KLR? I seem to be having the same problem in that my car is able to create more than 1bar boost without triggering fuel cut off (stock chips).

Hmmm, interesting KLR behavior artifact. Luke, did you have knocking at 20psi of boost as well? Can't imagine the stock chips or even injectors can flow enough fuel for 20psi of boost! And if the KLR was malfunctioning, knock would appear to be present as knock-detection is part of the KLR's function as well. Hmm....

i cant imagine making the fuel either.
all i had done at the time was 3in exhaust and no cat.

I was retarding ingnition(prolly alot 6 degrees)

but no Ultimate fuel cut. No harm done. NOw the car is just as powerful @ 15 lbs.

Angry

there is a guy around here making more the 20 lbs on stock injectors, a bleed valve, and a piggy-backed KLR.

Supposedly the K26/6 is capable of making 23lbs. of boost with adequate fuel.!!!!!

Now i have to decide if i wanna go with a huntley stage 1 or a Turbo tim stage 1???????

stupid lagg time

Yeah, sure the K26/26 can make 20psi+ of boost at 4000rpm. But its low capacity will have boost drop off down to about 10-12psi at redline (even with NO wastegate control, disconnected). So I guess it really does make sense that you had adequate fuel then, because that boost level was only in the mid-range.

If you look at Farzaan's Dyno Comparisons, you'll see that the increasing the boost on a K26/6 can have it surpass a stock TurboS, but only at low-RPM, then the turbo just maxes out:

APE chips on 87T vs Stock on 89 944T TQ As you can see, the stock TurboS K26/8 doesn't have as dramatic of a drop-off as the boosted K26/6.

The K26/6 doesn't even have a chance compared to the K26/8 in the TurboS when you start increasing the boost for both identically:

87 944T vs. 89 944T TQ (both with APE chips)

Here too, the TurboS K26/8 shows a much higher decline rate when stock boost is increased (asking for more flow than turbo's capacity). Although the K26/6 does have less lag and better low-end response.

I couldn't get more than 8 or 9psi at redline on my K26/6. That's with wastegate completely closed at 4500rpm and up. There's no way a K26/6 can make 15psi boost at redline, in any gear.

4000ft elevation sucks when the turbo's maxxed out.
