Default 968 mirrors or paint the flag mirrors?

Car is heading in for some body work shortly. I'm wondering whether I should mount up the 968 mirrors I have, or just have the shop paint the stock flag mirrors making them look new...

Thoughts?

The 968 mirrors look nicer – but the flag mirrors do a better job on the track!

Well, that's the funny thing. I have the mirror housings and mirrors, but nothing else. When I priced out the parts I needed to mount them, it's literally cheaper for me to buy another complete kit from Sunset etc, so I'd really end up with more like 2 sets of these. Although I'm sure I could sell the extra housings and get some money back in the budget...

Chris, the flag mirrors are larger than the 968 ones?

Really? I would have thought otherwise, guess you can't tell by looking!
The flag mirrors look like little baby barn doors!
I guess that's what wind tunnels are for!

I've loved the switch to the 968 mirrors last year!

The 44 mirrors are better functioning mirrors, if you define seeing whats beside/behind you as function. I was a little disappointed with this at first, until I sat in the shop looking at the 68 mirrors and handles.

Those in the flag camp can use this as another reason to be there. Those in the 68 camp won't care.

Doc,
Why not just go with CUP mirrors.

You can't beat the flag mirrors for functionality. Great big rectangular view to the back. It took a bit of recalibration after I put the 968 mirrors on, the total area of the mirror is smaller and they are sort of tear drop shaped.

That said, they look great and the passenger side is a convex "Objects are closer than they appear" mirror so you actually get a wider angle view of the impending doom behind you. Even worked the 968 door handle into this comparison pic

Depends what you want...I love my 968 for the look of the mirrors, but they take some getting used to after driving the 951.

doc, if you don't use them, let me know. I may need one, though I'd buy both.

ehall, I'll let you know. Right now I'm leaning towards just having the flag mirrors repainted.
