Question Heated seat question

My '89 951 came with heated seats. I've never managed to get the drivers side to work, I guess the heating elements are probably shot. However, a couple days ago my passenger complained that her rear was very hot. I agreed of course, but she then informed me that she was referring to the temperature rather than the shape. Well, I can't seem to turn the heater off! Is anyone out there familiar with the controls?? There's a button with raised bumps on the upper side, and flat on the lower side. In the center of the button is a roller positioned vertically. I assume the roller controls temperature, and the upper/lower button halves turn it on and off. Is this correct? Which position is supposed to turn them off? Should the temperature decrease when the roller is turned vertically downward? Thanks in advance.

Hey IanM!

I've never managed to get the drivers side to work, I guess the heating elements are probably shot.
The heating elements usually are very reliable unless the seat got wet. It probably is the switch or the plug. Check the plug under the seat to see if it is loose. Its easier to check when you raise both ends of the seat.

her rear was very hot.
...sweet

The upper half of the rocker switch turns heater on. The lower half turns it off. The **** in the switch controls the temp. Turn **** up to increase temp, turn **** down to reduce temp. The temp remains constant no matter what position it is in.

My local Porsche dealer wants $132(CAN) for a switch!! That seems like a lot to me. I've emailed Parts Heaven to enquire about a used switch through them. Anyone have any other ideas about where I could perhaps get a new switch for less than the dealers?
