ouchie, 35/30 profiles? that's gonna be painful (not to mention tough on the suspension) on the street....

perhaps as sexy as the 18" twisties are i should reconsider?? what size 17's can i run to get some more width but stick w/ stock fenders (and the car's an 86 so i have the stupid oldskool offset)?

 

You can get aftermarket 17" TechnoTwists in 17x9" all around. A lot of the vendors try to sell you a package deal with 7.5" fronts, but 9" all around will let you use 255/40-17 and rotate them for best wear.

Because of the missing rear spacer on the '86 951, optimal offsets are 35mm front and 25mm rear. Bizzare... So you can go with the 47mm offset they have and use a stock 944NA 21mm rear spacer. On the front, a 15mm 911 spacer would work.

 

Check out ebay for great deals on tires!! Then just pay to have mounted and balanced. Even with shipping I have seen 150-200$ tires for about 90-120 on ebay.

I am only running 225/55 16 BBS and it doesn;t look like there is much more room. Must have to do a lot of grinding to get 275's and bigger under there

 

What's the widest you can go with a nice widebody?
335? 345? what about the front? 285? That would look pretty crazy.

 

one problem, it looks like there are pretty much ZERO tires in that size (well, 2 offerings from hoosier, and one from pirelli).

The tire manufacturers specify the appropriate rim width for a given tire. They usually have it posted on their websites.

If you put too wide a tire on a rim, it becomes a safety issue plus you can decrease grip due to a "crowning" effect. This effect can actually reduce the contact patch size.
