Larger throttle bodies

Anyone have any experience with larger throttle bodies? Does it make any noticeable difference? I see that SFR has a big throttle body set up but I was told by another source that a throttle body any larger then the stock one wont make any difference and may even hurt performance. I find this hard to believe but if anyone has any experience share your knowledge please.

I put a throttle body, bored out 2mm by Ed Mazula at Big Bore Throttle bodies, on my mildly modified 86 951 (web cam,APE stage 2, test pipe,K27#8) and could definately feel better throttle response, especially in pre-boost RPM ranges. what difference it made on over all power, or on a car with different or no mods I could'nt say.

Check with Chris White at 944enhancement.com. He might be able to sell you a complete throttle body for less than the bore job and it is bigger. I've got one in the garage ready to bolt on when it gets back to 50 deg.

i may be wrong here, but isn't the important part the fact that the throttle body will be port matched to the intake, and not necessarily the actual size of the throttle body itself? Just a thought.

You want both. Get a TB that's at least 5mm larger and bore out the intake to match. Best to get one of the newer axle-less throttle-bodies. When the bufferfly's fully open, there's no bump in the middle.

So were do you get this axle-less throttle body that is 5 mm bigger and does it require modification to work on our cars? Also, can we enlarge the factory throttle body by 5mm?
