Default Optima battery option(s) for 951.

My battery won't hold a charge and it's probably time for a new one since I hardly ever drive my 951. And I'm always looking for a reason to upgrade.

I did some searching but found mostly late model discussions and nothing recent for our cars.

Has anyone gone with a Optima battery?

You may want to reconsider an Optima red top if you don't drive the car much, they don't like sitting for more than a week without a trickle charger on them.

I have a red top in my daily driver, but if I had to do it again I'd just buy a similar Interstate battery and save some money.

Isn't the optima too tall and hits the hood?

I start mine up about once a month so maybe an Optima isn't a good idea (or buy a Battery Tender).

I have the red Optima (bought it the last group buy). Agree on the charge...after about a week and a half for me, I'm starting it off a trickle charger.

That said, it fits - it is tall, but it works. I have rubber boots around the terminals otherwise it shorts itself on the hood.

I had to fabricate my own bracket for it - the stock one doesn't work because it's too wide...it won't grab the foot at the bottom to hold it in. So, I used the stock flange and bolt, but bent my own bracket around it to make it work.

Got one. Red top 35. Best way to fit is side ways.

I also use a red top. It is ever so slightly too tall and the neg terminal just rubs on the hood (thankfully its not the positive terminal!). I'm improvising right now (electrical tape) but am looking for rubber boots to put on both terminals.

Choinga: I find it mounts quite well using just one of the supplied plastic "clamp thingies" (have no idea what to call it)

Dimi 944: Thanks for the tip. I will try to mount it sideways and see if that helps the clearance.

I got a yellow top for my 951, in the current group buy. It's a smoking deal!

The Red top would be fine if you drive the car year round! If you don't the Porsche will kill iit! So if the car sits through the winter battery tender would be a must! for the Red Top, don't know about the Yellow Top as this is my first one but I have used the Red Tops for years in different vehicles without problems in daily drivers.

If your car goes days without being driven, spend $10 and get one of these.

If you're using a battery disconnect I can get you a 1.6kg Lithium type battery for the 951
