Post too much BOOOOOST

I just bought an 87 with a K27 (not sure if 6 or 8), headers, AJ Racing KLR and DME computers (not just the chips) and Reliaboost 1 and stock wastegate. I just installed my autometer boost gauge this weekend and took a test drive.....I'm running 23 PSI!!!! I installed the reliaboost at the same time I instlled the boost guage (yes I installed in the right direction). I am going to take the reliaboost off and try it again.....does anyone have any ideas on whY my boost is that high? How can I lower it if it is not the reliaboost?

The reliaboost is adjustable...

I dont know how exactly you adjust it, you gotta turn something one way or another...

It would make sense that whatever you turn, you turn it counter clock wise (losening) to reduce the tension on the spring...to make it need less pressure to open the valve...and thus reducing your boost.

Gonna want to be looking closely at the cycle valve to wastegate line to make sure it isn't cracked or otherwise leaking. Also, have a look at the wastegate and make sure it isn't stuck - wastegate dump tube should stay cold after idling a few minutes.

Check the A/F ratio. If it is OK then don't worry about it. If the car was NOT tuned to 23psi though, you are going to melt something....

I have been at 24psi for years.......=))

On reliaboost. The more threads showing the lower the boost. Unscrew to decrease boost.

Did you hook up the ReliaBoost inline with the CV? Most likely you have a crack or leak somewhere between ReliaBoost and the wastegate. This could be in the old lines or in the CV itself. In this case, you may want to run a line directly from the ReliaBoost's outlet (the knurled adjustable end) directly to the wastegate. Loosen up the adjustment fully (about 8 threads) to be on the safe side.

I took the reliaboost off and it now runs between 15 and 17 psi...there was a slight bend in the hose coming from the banjo belt....it must have been kinked enough to restrict the air going to the wastegate (it didn't look restricted to me)....I'm going to try a different installation...I'll let you know...thanks for the help

If you're ruunning 15-17psi with the reliaboost off and no outside form of boost control other than the Cycling valve, then you have a leak somewhere. As others have stated, definetely check the line going from the cycling valve (CV) to the wastegate.

why would I necessarily have a problem if I was running 15 to 17 PSI max without the reliaboost....Isn't that a safe boost level. The PO might have shimmed the wastegate previously, in which case isn't working like it should?

IIRC stock boost is like 12 psi so that's a little high for stock. HTH

Shimming the wastegate wont give you 15-17psi.

15-17 is a safe boost level with aftermarket chips, but for your setup without the reliaboost that is not where the boost should be, which indicates a problem/leak somewhere.

The overboost protection will shut you down before you get 15-17psi with stock chips.

I have stock chips and a reliaboost and I've seen 17 psi on my car. Is there something wrong?
