GT25 / GT35 Turbos. New? Better?
Hi,
This week I was routinely surfing along a couple of sites I irregularly frequent.
I checked out the Turbomatch site - <a href="http://www.turbofast.com.au/TFmatch.html" target="_blank">http://www.turbofast.com.au/TFmatch.html</a> - that in the past, when you configured a turbo for our cars, it came up with familiar names like T04B, T04E, depending on your requirements. All discussed at length in this forum
Only now, it suggested GT25/GT35 Dual Ball bearing turbos - <a href="http://www.turbofast.com.au/GTseries.html" target="_blank">http://www.turbofast.com.au/GTseries.html</a> – which they claim are the latest development. In fact, the numbers do not look bad:
e.g. GT25, 0.82 A/R, 16Psi ,Rating 350 HP, 374 BHP 6800rpm, 34,4 lbs/min airflow
e.g. GT25, 0.82 A/R, 20Psi ,Rating 440 HP, 419 BHP 6800rpm, 38,5 lbs/min airflow
Is this something new, or just a case of old wine in new bags, as they call it in Holland. Has anybody any experience?
Hans

Chris Cervelli at Technodyne uses GT turbos exclusively on their 951 upgrades (according to a past post, look up the archive under "GT turbo". He'ld be the guy to talk to. I'd sure love to have one.
They are expensive from what I understand and require modification to 951 plumbing to work, but once they do, look out!

These are probably one of the best turbos out there (along with IHI). They have a true twin ball-bearing center section (unlike single ones used on KKK hybrids/replicas).

Hey Danno...
Long time no talk...
I have one of the <a href="http://technodyneracing.com" target="_blank">http://technodyneracing.com</a> turbo set-up's on my car. (I have had 4 different turbo's on this car) All I can say is this one KICKS-*** in every aspect! What lag? Check out their website. It has a few articles regard the 944T along with a typical dyno chart 400WHP/420TRQ(flat!)with the Technodyne turbo. The car now has a entirely different sound almost like a race F355. It is not cheap, but it is reliable! I know stand-alone is all the rage, but I would be fussing with it all the time, this is turn key like a stocker till you punch it.

Paul,
very interesting.
I am looking for a totally reliable 400-ish RWHP setup on a track car, aimed at endurance racing.
And, because of the infamous cheap, reliable fast, 2-out-of-3 axiom I am afraid I have to spend some serious money.
I must say that the information from Technodyne has that touch of soundness and saneness that is not found everywhere.
Would you care to elaborate on your experiences with your various turbo's, including the last?

Hans,
If you can afford it call Chris at Technodyne and have him do the GT BB turbo set-up. I know of a few local racers that use this set-up on their cars w/o reliablilty problems on the track, keep in mind that for stickly track use he recommends Carillo rods. Mine is on my street car so it is a piece of cake.
Technodyne races somewhere around the country almost every weekend, I think the 951 has had track records at alot of the major tracks around the country. I think he has found the reliability limits so if you can do it it is probably the way to go. I been in their shop too many times while someone was trying to tune the Tec??? what-ever for the um-teenth time cause it keeps dropping cylinders.
I know Danno also offers a map set-up that works pretty well as a great bang for the buck set-up.
There is also 3.1 ltrs from John Anderson but I can only speak from my experience. I am very pleased with how my car turned out.
It's just about how much $$$$$$$$$$
