Hey Nick -
Please don't wreck a nice car doing something silly, like racing in an environment not meant for it.
Get on the track - and learn to drive for real.
Thanks!

RACE ON A TRACK, join clubs to do so, as we have several for that outlet. Check out the racing areas online here. You have safe and sane racing available, along with roll cages, helmets, and other safety equipment that I haven't mentioned.
STREET RACING IS ILLEGAL for a reason; so many people over the decades are dead from it, along with innocent people that happened into it.
I know, I was almost a victim, when I drove into a race area that was made by a bunch of yahoos, on my way to a friend's house, with my Porsche. I almost didn't get away alive, since my legal turn onto the street messed with their take off, and I nearly was hammered by the racers! All the participants screamed at me, shook their fists, threw whatever they had in their hands at me, and I literally had to drive for my life!
I NEVER want to see anyone wind up like me, and worse yet, dead. I was lucky that my car only suffered a few minor scruffs, of which I repaired. I was thankful the police closed down that Illegal racing group.
This will be my only posting on this thread.

Hi Nick,
I would like to echo Jay's comment... IMNSHO - street racing is just plain stupid. Please - don't do it - and if you do - I don't want read about it here...
I have 2 teenagers - both with their license. This spring - I'll be taking them to the track, and instructing them on how to handle a car at speed. That's not "street racing". I'll make you the same offer. If you come to one of the Rennlist events - I'll personally instruct you, if you'd like. I don't mean to sound like a pompass jerk - but, I think you'll find that what you think is "cool" now - you'll find out is pretty silly...
Save it for the track or a dragstrip, OK? The life you save - could be someone else’s.....

Not that I'm necessarily an advocate of street racing, but how is it that a youngun like Nick posts a few kill stories and people jump on him like he's the reason people die in car accidents (seemingly, methings, because it reference 'import nights') yet not a few posts down is a post by STV about street racing a GT2, M3, and M5 and everyone not only curious about the outcome, but strangely tight lipped about the potentially dangerous situation HE created? Are we working on a double standard where a couple p-car and comparable german boy racers are given the green light because we admire the cars being raced, or are we just less concerned about a few Greeks meeting their maker, and happy to see them post some truly interesting kill stories?
Again, I reiterate, I'm not necessarily an advocate of street racing, just pointing out some inequities which I think may be a bit obnoxious, especially seeing the rabid reaction the traditional boy racer kill story seems to elicit. I'm all for John's suggestion of getting the lad to the track for some honest lessons, but c'mon folks, let's maintain an even standard of ripping into racers even if they do race exotic German cars we may drool over!

JasonECW, I think the difference is that Nick951 is posting about a scene everybody knows something about...STV is in greece, nobody knows the road conditions, where they were doing it, how many people were around...etc...However from the term import night and nick's description...we get a good picture of where he was and what he was doing.

So racing is a case sensitive danger? I mean, I think just because we have preformed ideas about import street racing, people tend to jump on these race stories (amaf excluded for obvious reasons) as if they were stories about killing puppies, but when the race is a little more high brow, people on this list tend to get a little more excited and a little less forgiving. To me that's a double standard. Sure, I'm glad people reach out to people like Nick and suggest much more positive ways of getting out the need for speed, but what blows my mind is that every reply post to STV's story is either disbelief at the amount won or lost by and at no point did anyone question the safety of his actions regardless of whether or not we didn't know the road conditions. For all we know, Nick was as responsible as you can get for street racing, and did all of this in a deserted industrial park, or a totally out of the way country road...just pointing out that people seem to get a little less overprotective when it's a more 'respectable' race story...

I'm not disagreeing...just providing my explanation. In fact, I agree.
However, you have to admit that when you read each story, nick's will definetely get you thinking bunch of kids racing on crowded streets while STV's will get you thinking adults racing on autobahn or something...Well thats what it did for me initially.

I agree wholeheartedly with Jason. It was definitely the mention of Hot Import Nights that gave the story a type of Sport Compact Car aura. I street race, and there are many ways that you can make sure that it is just as safe as track racing. The people in Devia's story were definitely not doing that. When me and my friends race, we go out to long straight roads out in the country with no entries for at least a mile. There is no question about it, street racing is dangerous. But so are alot of things, if you take precautions, it can be alot safer than even drving in heavy traffic.
Nick- I'll be the first one to say this: Congrats on the kills.

On the streets, rice cars come beside me, inviting a race... Usually I'll give it a go, boost kicks in.. redline.. upshift... blow off... check rear view mirror.. gone.. they freak out.
DAMN... no one wants to race with me...

I thank you all for caring. The real reason i took it down there was because it was the second time i took it to the city. It has been a while since i had the car on the road, due to some upgrading and work to the car. i just wanted to race a few times to see how my car did. I know the dangers of street racing, and I know it's dangerous. But some times when you got a hot head in a civic, thinkin he can take you. You can't refuse. There are some cars i don't bother with. I don't race on a normal basis. I just though it would be a good time to show off my car, and beat some import rice. But i do thank you all for your concern. I only use the car for pleasure as do some fo you Hope this gives you a little more respect for me...Nick

I've been "picked on" by WRX's lately for some odd reason. 3 this month already. The best win was a 50 car length pull on the highway on the way home.

The WRX's down here are annoying too, but the worst by far are the Civic/Del Sol's. Those guys can't get enough! Maybe they tell each other about that crazy fast Porsche around here, and they all just want to see it go
Its so hard to ignore challengers when they are so persistent, and you know it will end in a couple seconds.
