Post MAF Q's.. would like user feedback. (danno?)

For those of you with MAFs, how do you like them? Any problems/traps/dealer scams etc? I think I'm ready to take the big step. Here's what I've got:

89 951, custom chips, ported/ringed head, ported intake, custom cam, Adj FPR, shimmed wastegate, cat bypass, drilled cycling valve. The throttle body, airbox, and turbo remain stock. (60K) We dynoed her at 290 at the wheels. Mixture was right on thru the runs, boost peaking around 17 lbs.

Due to a nice tax return, I think I'm going to throw 2G's at the motor this spring and it looks like MAF may be the way to go. Maybe a Huntley stage III and a free flowing intercooler.

Questions..

How many folks make a MAF kit for this car, and who's is the best? Huntley seems right, but I think I've read mixed reviews on the service end of it.

Is a bigger intercooler worth $500? I understand that's the next plug to free up. Should I buy a core for 175 on ebay and send it out?

Danno, I repect your opinion and would be honored if your input took you closer to the magic 5000 posts. Who would you recommend as a supplier?..since Paragon doesn't have them...

FWIW, I AM a rennlist member..undercover

TIA

What's your goal? What kind of driving will you be doing? And your upgrade plans for the future? There's really no 'one' right or best path, it all depends upon your goals.

Oh, I'd say 325+ at the wheels is a fair goal, I do PCA drivers ed's, a couple a year, (running A group on Hoosiers, Camber plates, Roll Bar, Race Pads) And really enjoy the boost on the open roads. Truth is, a few buds run similar prepped cars (thus the alias) and I'd enjoy the HP advantage the MAF brings. This is probably (yea, right) the final engine mod for a while, I don't want to go CRAZY. Maybe I'll need a bigger turbo when this one goes and injectors to flow it, but I'm in no hurry to overtax the bottom end.
Anyway, I've got a couple G's burning a hole in my bank account.. exploring my options.
You da man! 33 posts to go and then????

" I'd say 325+ at the wheels is a fair goal,

Ok, we can do that with the stock turbo. No use wasting money here as you can do that for less than $1k. I recommend spending the other half on suspension. I'll send you an email.

How close are you to Hillard?

Remember that in stock trim the TurboS has 30hp more than the Turbo. As you increase the boost, this difference actually diminishes as both run out of steam. However, the K26/8 still has an advantage of not having as quick of a torque drop as the K26/6. With the same max-torque at a higher-RPM, you end up with more HP. Dyno testing this weekend, back to you later, heh, heh...

BASTAGES!!! I've been found out!! Maybe I'll just use the 1K for a few "lap dances" from the Penthouse Pets I expect to meet at your bachelor party!!

As for the Kegger, I already own the plumbing, and a worthy fridge is just a $50 problem.. I left my last one in Indy..

nine-44, I believe you have mistaken me for someone else..But maybe we'll meet July 6th..

If 325RWHP is your goal you need to look at an aftermarket turbo with either an MAF or MAP kit or even aftermarket EFI. If over 300 HP was made with the stock turbo, it would be no more than a spike with little benifit in performance. You would be better off running a larger turbo at low low boost making 270 HP but have the HP/TQ accross a broader RPM range. Of course are higher boost you can make your 325 goal all day long too! Good luck.
