Question

Are there any systms that are "entry level" i.e just control air/fuel? be it manually or computerized to run higher air/fuel/boost levels?

From what I have learnd in here, just nailing that air/ fuel ratio down grants a lot more hp be it on it's own by just running more air/fuel and/or being able to turn up the boost. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

The stock air-fuel ratio is pretty much right on for the stock turbo and boost levels. Dumping in more fuel won't do anything for you. Adding chips or a MAF kit by themselves won't do much. You have to turn up the boost to get more air into the engine; that's where the power comes from. Then adjusting the air-fuel ratio to keep pace with the extra air becomes a crucial tuning step.

Yeah, check this out: <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=001466" target="_blank"> MAP sensor upgrade 1 </a>

The digital systems (Link, HKS, Apexi, etc.) allow pin-point accuracy in adjusting fuel at distinct RPM & load points in a 3D map. I'd avoid the low-tech ARC2 (might as well get a couple of rheostats and bias resistors).

Huntley's ARC2
Apex-i Super AFC
HKS Super AFR

All these can be used to piggyback onto a stock DME to produce the perfect A/F curve. They cost about $400-500.

The basic SDS system that controls only fuel costs $763 (+$70-$90 for a MAP sensor).

I just red in one of the import mags about AEM's stand alone. It is true plug and play, as they said you just unplug the stock harness and plug the AEM one in. Offers real time tuning of air/fuel timing and I think boost, etc. It is also Windows based for ease of use with laptop and offers graphing, charts etc. They were testing it on a new Acura gsx. It made about the same hp as 951 stock. They made a few runs and only tested for 45 minutes and got 10 more hp/tq peak and 20 in the midrage with ou doing anytihng else, just tweaking. they said after more than just 45 minutes and tweaking for future mods would be a ton more hp increase. I think it was 1,800$ Anyone else know about the AEM system?
