Tire size advice for front
I'm currently running stock size tires on my stock 16" phone dials, and need to replace the front tires soon. The rear tires have less than 3,000 miles on them (I replaced them right after purchasing the car last year), so I don't want to buy a full upgrade for all four corners at this point.
Since the rear is stock size (225/50-16), should
I stay with stock for the new fronts (205/55-16) or go with a wider selection? What would work well in combination with the stock rear size?
Better yet, can I have my 225/50's remounted on the 16x7 front wheels and go with a beefier rear? That would be great, but I don't want to get into rolling the fender or grinding, etc.
Help and comments appreciated.

Don't put oversize tires on your rims. If you want bigger tires, buy bigger rims. You're only asking for trouble if you oversize your tires. They will crown and wear unevenly, not to mention change the way the car handles. There is nothing to be gained.

Streckfu's, thanks for your insight.
In researching this further I've seen several posts that suggest the 225/50 (F) - 245/45 (R) combination is a pretty common upgrade on the stock 16x7/8 wheels. Aside from the fact this is bigger than stock, is it really "oversize" in the sense of being too big?
As for potential gains, I'm think more rubber on the road is a good thing.

I don't see how a 225/50 is oversize on a 7" wheel if thats what Porsche did with the Turbo S.
Similarly, a 245/45 is just about perfectly sized for an 8" wheel.
I say go for it! Move the 225/50 to the front and get some 245/45 for the rear.

Check with your tire manufacturer. They should give you a range of rim width that works with the tire you plan on using.
225 & 245 should not be a problem.

Go for it, before I had installed 17's in my 951 I used to have 225 front and 245 rear, which I even tracked and raced several times.

Tirerack has a feature that lets you verify which tires will fit on your rims. Choose which brand/type of tire you want, select the link for Specs. There is a chart that defines application, rating, recommended rim size, etc.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Do any of you have a picture posted somewhere showing the 225/245 combination installed on your car? I'm assuming this will fill out the wheel wells nicely.

Sybelix, I dont think that'll give the full effect because the 951S wheels have a way different offset from the standard 944 turbo.
Standard 951 is 52.3mm F/R. 951S is 65mm front and 60mm rear. This is partially due to the 951S suspension (front) and partially due to them making sure the wider wheels/tires would clear (front & rear).
