help timing belt replacement problem
Just installed a new timing belt and balance belt on my 86 944 turbo. Lined up the 3 marks in the front one on uper balance one on Cam and lower balancer
And underneath on flywheel.
After I put it all back together I started the engine and noticed a whining humming noise coming from the front
(Sounds like coming from belts) I checked the tension and seemed ok (3.0 with the infamous gauge)
Took the car out for test drive and noticed vibration and hard ridding when accelerating.
I have no idea what I did wrong.
Could my cam shaft timing be off one or more tooth?
Could the balance belt cause this?
Can any one help me with this?

Check the tension again on the belts, and also check that the bottom balance shaft pully is lined up correctly. Sounds like you're out - by like 180 degrees - which causes that wild vibration.
Also - for the hum, make sure that the balance shaft idler pully is 1.5mm from the belt - and it should NOT touch the belt without preloading the belt.
