I would go to downpipe route to get rid of the stock piece. Weren't the downpipes double-wall like the testpipes? If so the inside wall can collapse with old age. If you're looking at it from a purely financial standpoint, getting the coating and keeping the stock downpipe would probably be cheapest. To get my headers/crossover coated at Calico was $200.
That's cheaper than I expected. The wife would be happy with that. My downpipe looks new, inside and out.
If you are running a stock set up ..I dont know how much benifit you will get from a larger downpipe ... The reason I went with the coating on the pipes was primalry to keep the heat down in the engine bay, all the other attributes are just the cherry on the top
