Post Please help, oil pan gasket blows...

I have driven my car a total of less than 10 miles since my rebuild which was enough to blow the oil pan gasket in two places... I'd really appreciate it if anybody could give me leads as to why this is happenning...
Thanks.

did you hook something up wrong??? sounds like you are pressurizing the heck outta your crankcase. i'd check everything over real good and start from there

Let me share my blues as well. I have only about 10K miles since a new head gasket, new cam cover gasket, pan gasket etc. I have developed not only a large balance shaft rear plug oil leak, but now another cam housing gasket leak which is pouring oil onto my #1 exhaust manifold. Major fire hazard ! I believe there is a problem with over pressurization of the crankcase. Do I have massive blowby on old piston rings with the MAF and 18 psi boost ?? I checked patency of my crankcase vent tube and it is intact. I would really like to know what is going on before I replace some more gaskets only to blow out the new ones again.

Thanks for the responses.

I have replaced the gasket, this time following the torque recommendation, and tightenning sequences. I've also used a very small amount of loctite 574 (aka Porsche glue)at the corners of the gasket. So far it isn't showing any signs of failure but the car has only been driven around 10 miles (have a cam housing leak, and charging problems).

Ahmet, your 1 week rebuild sure is taking a long time! Don't worry, i'm not gonna say i told ya so. Drop me an e-mail if i can help you in any way. Did you get it away from your friends shop or garage? I hope he's not mad at you. I had been wondering where you have been.

David, i doubt that is your problem, do a leak-down test and see. It is probably just Murphy coming to get ya.

I replied to this tread because I felt like the answer to the question I was asking was never clear (just read something about the worst thing on rennlist being un answered questions just hanging around the archieves).

But, here's a somewhat detailed report on my 'one week' rebuild that actually did take about two weeks for several reasons, but it's still on-going because of post rebuild problems!

I've done more stuff than I not only intended but also ever thought I'd do this particular car. I'm still not in the hole too deep though, and it sure as hell seems to be coming together quite nicely (rebuilt engine, hoses, ,3 inch turbo back open exaust with removable straight through muffler, lines, pumps, gaskets, rotors, pads, more lines, master cylinder, roll bar, shocks, bushings, gauges, nice stereo/mp3 player, speakers, sub, alternator, battery, etc. etc. and still less than $6500 total, including buying the car).

The cam tower gasket is now leaking I'm hoping I'll fix that ONCE and be done with it. I can't believe it looks this close to me actually taking the best 951 candidate (that wasn't burnt or wrecked) for the junk yard, and turned into a nice car.

The owner of the shop isn't mad at me Three people own that shop actually and now I'm good friends with one, and had gotten initial permission from another, it's a long story

Anyway, I'm getting ready to take the cam housing gasket tomorrow because of the spontaneous leak.

But oh brother has life been tough outside of cars. You know my parents moved to Turkey, I moved into a condo, started taking summer classes (at NCSU), it has been crazy.

How have you been? How's the married life treating you? I bet you're having a good time!

Yeah, i have tried "weekend" headgasket jobs before. You end up replacing everything you touch just because you are in there. I didn't reply to your post here before because i did on pelican, about cleaning out the silicone and using loctite on the corners. If you still have problems with the cam cover let me know and i will see if there is an old style gasket at the shop, there probably is.
Hope the load lightens on you, i'm sure it will beeasier when you get the 51 up and going again.
