yes chris's harness was great - there were a few confusing wires removed / run in conjunction to/from the dash, but they went to his additional gauges, what can i say i'm just picky i'm going to leave it all in place til we get it started, and then work on something, i'm considering the stack setup, but want to see if it comes with senders, or can re-use factory ones, or what...

dmoffitt,
If you do your own wiring, throw in a couple extra wires that run the length of the car so you can add stuff later.
I sent you a PM about the harness I have for sale.

I myself would use what chris has in place and get myself one of those I believe they are called PAINLESS wiring kits. Alot of my buddys with street rods have them and they consist of a fuse center and wiring. You could use this to do all the lighting, windows, heater controls and little stuff on the car. Might be somethinf to look into. I think summit sells them in their catalog. This seems like the best solution to the problem as I agree 17 yr old wire isnt my first choice to start a new project with.

I just saw this link posted on another web board and thought you might be interested. This place claims to have new 951 engine wiring harnesses for $750. Check them out under the specials page.

update (if anyone cares lol):
i spent the past couple of days pulling my old wiring harness from the old car. *grimace* what a monstrosity. it all came out intact (i cut off the stuff i knew i wasn't going to include in the new car, and so that simplified it a bit) but the way the factory fuse box and relays are setup, its' going to be impossible to modify it without spending 3 weeks, so screw it, i'm just making my own wiring for the whole car (except the engine harness. that's separate / intact, and works fine. if i need another i'll check out that place, plus dave lindsey knows a guy w/ a brand new one for sale i guess). i bought 50 feet of nylon sleeving, have access to plenty of heat-shrink and wire thanksfully... so now i need to separate lighting, interior/accessories, and am gonna leave a good bit of room for expansion too.
oy, i mangled my hands pulling that stuff, and cutting it apart today *shudders* between trying to pull it, and using a razor to hack off the nasty old dried-up tape insulation (it's got electrical tape underneath this crazy cloth tape stuff that's like gaffer's tape, but so old/crusty/layered that it's like cutting off a hard layer of plastic. ugh).... razor blade 1, dave 0. at least i'm current on my tetanus shots

I'm going to try and use the stuff chris did for the dash for now, but there's a small issue w/ the speedo (as he had a 968 trany w/ the difference being they don't have the sender for the speedo, so i think he took a lead from the ABS computer and ran it thru something to get a proper speedo signal, but i can't re-use that, so i am going to have to figure out something to get a speedo signal). pretty soon i'm going to get a complete dash from STACK (sard) or maybe assemble one from Defi, Greddy or another high-end gauge mfgr... but i need the car moving/drivable a lot more than i need a speedo
oh well, time to get back to work diagramming it
