I've been unsuccessful in trying to get the SerialLink datalogging adaptor to work with the LinkAFM box.
I have the serial port set on my laptop configured as follows, according to the instructions that came with the Link serial adaptor:
Baud rate = 1200
Parity = none
Data bits = 8
Stop bits = 1
Flow control = none
First, I cannot start the engine whenever the serial adaptor is already plugged in. If I disconnect the adaptor, then the engine starts OK.
Therefore, I start the engine first without the adaptor, then plug in the adaptor. Next when I start a datalogging session and try to capture data to a file on my laptop, the files are always empty. Something is not communicating with something.
What am I doing wrong?
Also, I downloaded the PCLink windows software from the Link ElectroSystems Web site. Is this software supposed to work with the Link serial adaptor? I tried it but I am also unable to establish any kind of connection through the adaptor. Has anyone gotten the PCLink software to work with the SerialLink adaptor?
Thanks for any and all help!

Not sure why you have the engine start problem with the serial link (it worked ok with mine) but to answer the second part of your question the PClink software is not designed to work with the link AFm/serial link.

Nope - the data logger just lets you hook up the output to a PC and capture the data feed in a text file (which you can import into a spreadsheet, etc... for later examination). It will tell what zone you are in, the RPM, pressure, etc... It is quite handy for dyno runs or road run tuning.

Yes, only the COMlink software works with the MAP upgrade boxes. Make sure the software is running when you turn the engine on (it doesn't have to actually be capturing anything). But if you have the capture started, the box dumps all its internal settings when its turned on (good for a backup of all your settings).
A sample of the datalogged file can be found here (opened in Excel): <a href="http://www.gururacing.net/Manuals/SerialLinkGraphTemplate.xls" target="_blank">SerialLinkGraphTemplate.xls</a>
The really helpful column is the O2-sensor voltage. Which when graphed, looks very similar to the ones you get out of a dyno. Just make sure you have the engine fully warmed up since the O2-sensor is temperature dependent.
