How long does it take to change a rear Cv/axle?

You've gotta get the car into the air, clean out the cheese heads, loosen them all up, sometimes drill the head off a bolt or two, snake the axle around the transmission cooler, put the new axle in, find your replacement bolts for the ones you drilled, tighten the bolts, torque the bolts, and lower the car.

I use a tiny screw driver to get all the grease/dirt out of the cheeseheads then spray some brake cleaner in them and that will usually get them pretty clean. A stiff brush also works to clean them out.
Edit: And yeah, 30 minutes if you have new axles ready to swap in with all tools out and the car is up in the air is a good estimate. It definitely isn't challenging. Just make sure your cheesehead driver is fully seated before you start torquing the bolt.

Don't take offense to that. It wasn't an insult to you. Believe me, I am the master of turning a 10min job into a 3 day job.

And CVs are easier to replace than many other parts on these cars...
30 minutes sounds about right... I recently torqued all 24 bolts in one shot without need to spin the rear axles... and have removed and re-installed mine frequently enough that I have yet to have the gunk on all the bolts that everyone speaks of... I guess I consider tham part of my anual maintenance...
Grease CVs, Coolant change, TB/BS belt change, WP ever other year...
only had 2 unscheduled maintenance issues (ruber centered clutch in the NA and poped HG on same car, found durring trouble shooting for a no start, so I suppose you could say no start was real reason for maint!)

I used <2 minutes last time, just use your air tools or 18V tools, then put back with a sensible torque setting, I never botherd with proper torque here, and never had any trouble.
I dont have dirty bolts though, as I seem to take them in & out on a regular basis as with everything else on the car.... think my record is takeing the engine in & out 9 times in a single day. not a record you want.

You guys are good, I just did this this weekend and between my paranoia about snapping or stripping a bolt and 23 years worth of gack in the bolt heads it definitely took me longer than 30 minutes. That said, it was probably more like and hour and really wasn't hard, like someone said it's one of the few jobs on these cars where you have good access...

really few bolts break on 944 is my experience... same cant be said for mazda miata, I broke 8 different bolts on my friends engine block alone when we changed internals to forged stuff.
