I have to put a good word in for the parts guy at the San Antonio Porsche dealership. He has always been very knowledgeable, and friendly and curteous even though I have ordered some of the most obscure and trivial parts at times (in addition to the big expensive ones). I know I have spent quite a bit of his time searching through the microfiche and CD database looking for the part numbers for a lot of stuff too. Oh and there is often a minor discount on the parts price too. No complaints here.

It's a sweet deal, but keep in mind that most dealers will give a PCA member a discount anyway. I used my certificate at Momentum in Houston and got the PCA discounted pricing as well as the $100 off. With tax my "original" total would have been just over $300, but I walked out with only a $150 hole in my wallet!

I have two Porsche dealerships near me - Don Rosen Porsche and Holbert's Porsche. Ive never had any experience with Holberts... but I will say this... I will never... EVER bring any business to Don Rosen... EVER.

I brought my car to them immediately after purchse to have the belts/water pump/etc etc etc done as prev. maint... they changed the belts... but left the old pullies in! Not only that, but there was a pully missing entirly!!!

Ive had COUNTLESS problems with their work... it ended up costing me THOUSANDS of dollars to redo the stuff they screwed up. I actually thought of suing for the repair costs.

I had an overheating problem after they worked on it... and the mechanic actually told me I had to "Live with it." I was so F'n mad I almost hit him...

My general view of Don Rosen Porsche is that they can probably change the oil in a Boxster with the best of em, but bring them a Porsche built prior to 1995 with the engine in front of the driver and they dont have any idea what to do. Stay away from this dealership.

I agree about Don Rosen Porsche dealership 100%. They seem to pride themselves on being unhelpful, at least if you have a 1988 944T anyway. Very bad vibes. Holberts does as good job all around.

Hey guys:

I own 2 Porsche, one Ferrari Testarossa, one (bought new) Toyota Sequoia, one (bought new) Jeep TJ and guess where I was treated best. Yes, when I bought my Jeep - don't mind the 5 year piece of mind warranty either. Why the difference? I can choose from about a zillion Chrysler dealerships in my area but there are only one (1) Porsche and one (1) Ferrari dealer around. Competition is the key. Even when I only bring the Jeep in for a stupid 39 Canadian dollar oil change I get a call the next day if I was happy or not! The Porsche and Ferrari dealership couldn't care less if I spend 1 or 10,000 dollars on maintenance. I hope they read this.

Parts are marked way up at the dealer. Common everyday parts can be had for 50-75% of what the dealer charges. For special items, sometimes you are stuck with the dealer, but I always try elsewhere.

I recently needed a new turbo coolant pump for my S4 Audi:

Dealer: $200
Blaufergnuven: $150
Vertex: $89

Vertex is by far the lowest priced supplier for Porsche parts I have seen, and the best part is they even carry some Audi stuff too! This is good stuff, not NAPA type parts.

I can usually negotiate some off of the dealers price, but most times I go elsewhere when I can.

No doubt about it. That's what I was referring to on the Brumos offer. The extra $40 is going to be off list, so you can usually match their offer anywhere.

I look at it this way, I needed mats and wanted the new mats to say Porsche - only choice is the Dealer. I needed a new glass for my 968 mirror - other choices available, but I need a $200 order. Nice T-Shirt at dealer parts counter works on unsuspecting Porsche fanatic and he succumbs to pressure and adds to sale price (and dealer profit margin)!

All told I'm out $150, but I would have paid that for new mats from Llyods with shipping. So I figure I got the 968 mirror glass and the t-shirt for free!

Well, I'll throw in a good word for the dealeships in Toronto .. both Pfaff and Downtown Fine Cars parts counters have been very helpful and courteous .. even when I go in to order a $1.28 heater clip The guy at downtown even put my battery in my key head for me.

That said ... some of their parts prices are fine, others are wayyyyyyy out. Just shop carefully and compare. Being in Canada, I've actually found several things that they carry at LESS cost than mail order from US.

Sadly, they haven't given me a PCA discount .. maybe I should have specifically asked? No prob with the $100 cert. ... went towards my engine rebuild (drop in the bucket)

I'm hearing lots of good words about Paragaon on this board ... have to try them sometime.
