Default Misfire when starting? starter kick back with youtube link

MY car has a weird problem....

It looks as it it misfires whn i try to start the car. Not always but getting more frequent. I found a lot of threads with Starter 'kick back' issue

When i start the car the starter works fine but then it stalls and then starts. It is a new starter since i thought it might be the starter i bought a new one but it did not help.

Ideas?

While driving no probs at all.

You need the flywheel sensor bracket which has the shielding tube to prevent stray magnetism from the starter sending a false signal to the DME.

For a while, my motor would kick back every once in a while when starting it. It would crank and then stop with a sudden clunk. Some folks thought it was ref sensor interference, but I ended up changing the starter and the problem went away. I think the gear was disengaging under load, giving the feel like when a tranny comes out of gear with the clutch engaged under load. Not sure if that's what your getting, but if so, it may just be the starter. On the other hand, if your motor starts up and runs for a bit, then stalls, you have a different issue for sure.

Later style bracket with shield.

Its possible the bracket on your car was replaced with the early style one which did not have a provision for the sensor shield. I had this issue after i did my clutch, broke the original bracket and had the early style one as a spare. Was having issues with the car firing at the wrong point every once in a while when cranking. Newer style bracket fixed the problem. This was needed because the turbo's used a smaller starter which put out higher EMF.

Same problem with 3 different starters.. 2 new ones and my original.

The engine does not start up since it stalls during startup. Mostly second time starting no prob just runs fine then.

Does the car start, sputter, and then stall. Then restart and all is fine? If this is the case, this is a problem many many people on this sight have and no one can figure out. Some say it is the fuel pump anti drain valve and most others can't figure it out.

No it is more like a hick up while starting. The starter itself makes the hickup. The engine does not sputter and then stall.

I turn the key to start, the starter goes and then some sort of resistance? which looks like a hickup of the starter and then i turn the key back and start again and it starts just fine.

Well, still no solution. Bought the updated sensor bracket, new sensors and a lindsey racing wiring harness for the sensors. But still the problem is there..

Does anyone have a good clip of the sound reffured to as Starter 'kick back' issue?

Could it be as simple as a wrong setting of the gap for the ref sensor? Of is it a bad flywheel?

I have tries almost anything it seems but it just does not work.. getting mental here..

Could be hydrolock because of a leaky injector?

Every time i want to make a short clip the problem doesn't occur or is less heavy... This time i managed to make a short clip with a slight kick back at the 2 seconds point of the clip.. This is the problem but many times even a bigger clunck.

at 4 seconds again the cloink

and with immobiliser activated. No problems with starting. So not the starter itself?

After viewing the youtube video, I would suggest that it is not the kickback problem, but rather a problem with the starter itself. It may also be a problem with the starter ring gear, but tough to tell.

ok, but the old starter had the same problem? And starter ring is said to be ok. Just had a pressure plate repair so they checked the starterring for me.
