1986 951 Zermatt Silver with 49K miles (Now 54K)
#2
Above are a few photo's of my newly aquired 1986 951...I purchased this car in 02/2010 with 49K miles on it and I am the confirmed 3rd owner....to date I have put approximately 6K on it with minimal issues.
Hope you enjoy the photo's and the "barn find" as much as I enjoy driving it.

Very nice car, I can only hope the '86 951 with 68,000 miles on it that I look at tomorrow will be somewhat comparable in quality. I like the wheels too, wish I kept those on my first 951...

Beautiful car.
To my eye, 2 thoughts:
1. clear side lenses
2. Using Zermat silver paint, fill in the embossed Porsche letters in the door handles, in the rear spoiler, and in the wheel caps. You can use touchup paint or model airplane paint and a fine bristle brush. Rub off over-brushing with a clean cloth dampened with paint thinner, after the paint dries for an hour or two. The spoiler embossed letters will require more care, best to raise the glass to help avoid runs.
The paint additions are subtle touches, virtually no cost. Did this on my Cobenhabenblau '86, got lots of compliments.

I think ^that would ruin this absolutely gorgeous barn find 951. Zermatt Silver is my all-time favorite Porsche color. Thanks for sharing and congrats!

Beautiful car though, love the color. I would ditch the smoked lenses, original ones would make the car pop more IMO.

Thanks for the comments and feedback......I think I am going to ditch the smoke lens (luckily it is only vinyl tint) as I like the look of Racerxrick's avatar (+1 for Zermatt) and I'll skip the painted script, although I'd did do something similar on my 89 Mustang back in 1989 and it did look good.
Yes, Rolex I am from New Jersey...I live about 10 minutes from Center City Philadelphia and actually commute the Schuykill Expressway in good weather and Friday's.
To give you all a little more details about the car, since Febuary, I have been really sorting the car out mechanically and driving it. I have to tell you it is a great car to drive.....gotta love that boost in 2nd and 3rd.
As you all have experience and could imagine, after 25 years of minimal driving a lot of the perishables needed attention and the normal / standard 944/951 issues needed to be resolved. The PO was a career Military officer and bought it in MS in 1986 brand new and owned it / stored it for about 23/24 years depending on his deployments ( I have actually spoke to him, found and old recipet and googled him)...the 2nd owner owned it for less than 1 year and I guess got frustrated or he didn't like the raw car a 951 is and traded it in to a Ford Dealership for a 2010 Mustang GT, I nabbed it out the back door via a broker. So I guess technically, I am owner number 2.
To date I have done the following:
- Belts and Water Pump (done as part of the purchase)
- Motor Mounts
- 1&4 Exhaust Manifold (replaced with a later model version off of an 88 or 89, we thought it was a gasket and while heating up the bolts to replace the gasket, the steel flange distorted the pressed in stainless steel header, resulting in it sounding like a VW and a need for a new one)
- Replaced Rear Shocks (saving up for a complete Koni upgrade)
- Replaced Fuel Pump (1st sub freezing night this fall sprung a leak)
- Rear Axels and CV Joints (Drive side started to click, so I replaced both, the grease looked more like carmel than grease)
- Sunroof Gears
- Complete Fluid change, (Oil, Break and Clutch), plugs, wires (orginal ones were on the car and crumbled as they were taken off), Cap & Rotor, changed break/clutch fluid
- Upgraded Stereo (2010 ) Blaupunkt with Bluetooth and Speakers
- Upgraded wheels with Fuch 7&8 951 Wheels
As of right now, it is completely sorted and runs strong. All there is to do this winter is change the breaks, change the coolant and really work on q-tip detailing the whole car and get it ready for Hershey and a summer of driving.
Again, Thanks for the compliments.

How about new floor mats with a silver "turbo" script?
I will +2 on potent's and Rolex's suggestion to get rid of the smoked lenses. A car with this few miles and mostly (if not 100%) original bits deserves to be kept as stock as possible (IMHO of course).
