You guys should really be changing the hotside of the turbo, upgrading to a number 8 hotside is a way more effective than going from a 2.5" exhaust to 3".

As a matter of fact, I'd even consider a 3" exhaust a total waste of time if you have a stock k26/6 and you've already removed the cat and have a free flow muffler.

Any decrease in pressure drop on a turbo car (tailpipe/muffler) will increase the volumetric efficiency (VE). Any increase in VE will increase Hp.

That seems to be the situation, however, let me ask you something. Assuming you can do some wrenching on your own and do not have to pay a $95/hr labor rate, would you rather:

A. Buy a stainless steel full 3" exhaust for $1200 to reduce preturbo back pressure
or
B. Buy a k26/8 for around $350 to reduce preturbo back pressure a lot

In my experience, going to a number 8 hotside increases exhaust noise by 15-20db ( with an aftermarket catless exhaust ).

Im not saying a 3" exhaust wont increase power, but in my opinion, after removing the cat and changing the muffler, the next real restriction in the exhaust is that number 6 turbine housing.

But let's say you weren't an asthma-causing cat deleter and ran a cat. Then how about a 3" exhaust with a new cat and muffler with the k26/6?

not this again

Yes the 26/6 can create 15psi map at 6500 on the 2.5 engines

If you aren't seeing this then either your wastegate needs attention, your exhaust after the turbo, or your software, or your controller settings

I have data logs to prove this, they are on rennlist somewhere

I was using a stock high mileage wastegate, shimmed with 2 Lindsey shims

2.75" downpipe

Stock, de-catted mid section

Autothority Stage 2

I've got a TiAL 38mm & a MBC. stock down pipe, stock exhaust with test pipe, LINK AFM and a Innovate LM-2 W/B o2 data logger & a larger FMIC. i just got the data logger and the IC and will log how much boost i get at redline.

Ive heard people who claim they can maintain a steady 15psi from 3k to 6.5k with a EBC, but ive never seen it.

I had a tial 38mm wastegate, MBC and a catless straight through 2.5" exhaust and I could never hold a steady 15 psi to redline with my k26/6. Immediately changing to a K27/8 turbo with no other exhaust/wastegate mods allowed me to hold a STEADY 16psi from 3k to redline.

I, along with many others, have had to set their MBC with a k26/6 to 18-19 psi if 15psi was desired at redline...which actually safely gives a serious midrange kick and reduces some backpressure after 6k rpm.

Yes, he is the friggin man.. he handled ballancing my turbo when I rebuilt it myself.. if I had to do it again I would just have him do the whole thing..

and make sure you check out his Camaro while there.. it is a BEAST!

Can you port the stock K26/6 turbo? I know that was a cheap easy upgrade for Talon's and eclipse's back in the day. It wasn't a huge increase, but every little bit helps?

I have heard this argument since 2003. I don't remember every seeing anyone (including John Porssccchhh951, who made 300whp on a 26/6) that could hold 15 psi to redline. I could be wrong, but again I don't remember reading it. I certainly can't, I am at 13 or so psi at redline with a shimmed waste gate, full exhuast and all new vacume lines.

unplug the lines to your wastegates and see what happens...if you're all right, no ones engine will blow up!
