Right still not bashing but, regarding exhaust dia after the gas has exited the turbo and travelled a certain distance through a 3 inch downpipe it seems that increasing the dia of pipe as the gas is cooling and less dense has little advantage other than looks, maybe if you fit the exhaust back to front it will work better

Thanks for the response Mike! I might have to give it a try, I like loud exhaust anyways
Alex, if you're around and want to hear what an open unmuffled dump to atmosphere sounds like just give me shout.

We increase the diameter of the pipe because we don't want a pipe. Since we have to put a pipe there (needs to exit out the back of the car and we have to get there somehow), the next best thing to no pipe is a big pipe. The bigger the pipe, the more it simulates no pipe. I know that sounds very technical.

If your suggesting getting smaller as you go, go ahead and give it a try.

No I'm suggesting that the 3 inch dia section has already determined any flow restriction and opening up the dia further downstream wont increase flow measurably. Speaking personally I have run an exhaust with minimal restriction and under 3k it sounded like a truck, nice turbo whistle when it came on boost though.

The part that you might not be aware of is that not only is pipe diameter of importance, but also the length of the pipe has an effect.
A 3" diameter pipe 15 feet long will induce greater back pressure than a 5 ft pipe of the same diameter.
So in order to simulate as short a pipe as possible, at least make it bigger as it gets longer.

But does it make a significant performance improvement on a 951 ?.

Mike,

When will you guys bring out a side exhaust? Perhaps use some of the Dr Gas components?

Hey Rick! Your're welcome anytime, though from the look of things outside today, it may not be until spring. : (

I really do need to get the car up to my brother's place and out of the garage...

You've got bigger problems if it does effect spool up
