More Poor Man's Octane Research - LOL
Well, this one has been around for decades, but the root of it is really an octane booster, but never heard much on running it directly.
Naptha/Naphthalene - aka "moth *****" in the old days. The hot rodders would actually use moth *****, but the active chemical was naptha, which is found in many octane boosters as well as other petroleum products; camp fuel etc.
The more research I did I found it linked as an equal to xylene/toulene, alcohol, acetone, etc.
So, anyone ever ran a gallon of Naptha mixed in?

The good ones will have only 1 or 2 ingredients with “heavy” naphtha being the main ingredient. The cheap ones will list alcohol as one of it’s main ingredients."

It seems on all the octane boosters tests I have read, the best ones seem to have high levels of Naptha/Napthalene. And the one that seems always the best or most potent, Lucas Octane Booster, shows in the MSDS sheet: Petroleum distillates, Hydrotreated Paraffinic, Naphthenic Solvent.

Just to be clear - Naptha is a mixture (not a molecule or even a 'chemical' really) of compounds. It contains a fair amount of toluene, xylene and similar molecules as well as lots of heavier alkanes. Seems to me that naptha is essentially like buying pump gas with toluene and xylene already added.

When I owned my Turbo 6 Buick I was always dumpin' sh%t in the gas tank...used to be a lot of discussion about that on their boards. Heck, like the 951 it wasn't that hard to run 18/19 psi on pump gas anyway. Of course the car completely changed character with a simple race chip swap, straight leaded race gas and 25psi!!!!!!!!!!
I am very interested in E85 if anything for the extra safety margin. At the same time I'm only running 15psi right now and the car is powerful as it is.
Never enough right!

Actually I've always gone with Xylene as it is 117 octane over the 114 of Toulene. But Toulene supposedly has a higher BTU. But for turbo octane I feel carries more weight than BTU potential.
But they are both $15-16 a gallon and just not worth it.
I am gonna run some acetone again now that I have my knock counter hooked up and see how that fairs with the standard 1 oz per gallon mix. At that rate, if it offers any knock suppression, is really cheap. And most MSDS of octane boosters also have levels of acetone in them.

hey!!
I was just in O Town. The family went down for Thanksgiving. I saw 1 red 951on I 4.
I went by Redbone on the FRI after Thanksgiving but they were closed.
If I was still in Orlando E85 would be available but not up here where I am at now.
