Belts are due replacement for a time change, 3 years or 30K miles, which ever comes first. Cheap investment rather than risk of belt snapping and resulting in Head work.

So if a vehicle sits in a garage for a few years covered, jacked up to prevent spots on tires you change the belts? Should I go in and change out the hoses and door seals too?

OK so lets think about this
Your reasoning is because of age on the belts....
So when I buy a belt is it freshness dated?
How do I know that the belt I just purchased has not been sitting on a shelf somewhere in the sun through a window for 4 years?

But if the shop really kept its belt stock in the store window... out of the nice clean cardboard box... in the sun... yeah, I see your point. I'd find another shop. Or at least find a shop that sold them still in their cardboard boxes.
But hey bub, it's your car. Maintenance schedules are designed to be conservative and foolproof. You could be lucky -- many are. But wouldn't you feel like a fool if you ended up with bent valves because of a $10 part?

I hear you. I have been wrenching 44s since the early 90s.
Personally I think everyone gets a little freaked out by the timing belt thing
Usually it breaks due to some other form of penetration of a foreign substance within the belt covers.
Like a water pump failure, or someone spilling a can of soda down the front of the engine etc.
This car is a garage queen plain and simple
If a potential buyer wants to change the belts so be it.

Just to add my 2 cents...
If you are selling the car (which you are) and advertising on this forum (which you are), most potential buyers will be familiar with the "3 years/30,000 miles" rule and consider this area of potential threat a necessary and immediate additional cost.
A selling/buying factor to be negotiated I'm sure.

so I went out today with the intent of cleaning her up for a photo shoot / web site to sell her and I gotta say she is NOT for sale any more...l..
I am going to keep her.
Consider this a timing belt thread!
