While I'm at it.... wtb turbo
I need to do a gasket job, while my mechanic is there, I was thinking... maybe I should change my turbo. I have a K26-6. I also have a good contact for rebuilt.
Does anybody have a turbo, higher that K26-6 for sale.
thanks
Eric

If you are looking for a brand new Garrett double ball bearing I have one listed with MaxTune/ custom chips tuned for it. It's a wet TO4E 50 trim w/ stage 3 wheel and #8 housing. It's a direct bolt-up and comes with a custom water feed pipe to avoid clearance issues and all adapters. Might be out of your price range but it's a great street turbo with excellent performance. The car is sold now so I can sell the other new parts.

Thats exactly what my mechanic is telling me. But as I said, while he's there, changing all gaskets... If I could find like a 26-8 or a maybe 27 for an excellent price, I guess I would change. If I cant find, I'll keep my 26/6 and I will still be happy.

been there too...very recently (replaced the headgasket and had him hang a new LR53 turbo while he was at it
At first i was disapointed with the lag though have solved some issues since then. Now the car pulls like a freight train.
HOWEVER as otjhers have said the 26/6 was very stout and the car was awesome on the track. It's only about 5 more "book" hours labor to install the turbo. Keep in mind depending on whether it's a bolt on or not that could rise.
Since you've got the head off I would suggest a fresh valve job and mine needed to be milled flat. I also did the LR steam vent kit...seemed like a little extra insurance.
The slippery slope..haha, since then I've upped the exhaust and still want a MAF upgrade to really "use" the bigger turbo (right now only at 15psi with stock inj's and AFM).

Its where a cam housing gasket turns into belts rollers plugs wires cap rotor 14 cooling hoses water pump PS rack hoses sway bushings ball joint kits......
A new turbo has diff slope, mostly being more expensive. Things like a new down pipe to match the turbo. New 3" or larger test pipe. New cat back. New wastegate. New MAF. New injectors. New chip.
Not that these aren't cool things to have, but if your car doesn't already have these things, and you don't have $4000 laying around, this is the slope.
My love affair with the 26/6 comes from several things: No oil in IC after 110K miles. No turbo maintenance in 110K miles. Reasonable boost curve at the RPM levels I'm willing to use 99% of the time.
