Okay, I've just gotta ask if this is normal for a 951.

Mine will willingly break loose the rear tires during even a very mild 1-2 shift and even a somewhat spirited shift will reward me with a more noticeable one, a good solid chirp. Heck, coming back from Subway I noticed a slight chirp during the 2-3 shift and that was with a passenger in the car, too! And I'm not driving aggressively. I'm running winters in the rear but they have maybe 3k miles on them so it isn't due to a lack of rubber.

Is this normal behavior from a 951? Granted it's neat but I shudder to think what it's doing to my drivetrain.

Lot of info left out...LSD=yes/no, Tire size and compound, 951 stock? Chirping is not normal in 1st and 2nd, full blown roasting is.[all or nothing depending on launch and shift point] Usually I save the rubber for 3rd where some control is availible.[with the car, driver has none]

Okay, I'll have to pop the PITA hatch and look up the codes to verify the status of a LSD.

The car is supposed to be all stock, and all original. I haven't found anything to disprove that part of the equation so the clutch has got to be stock, too - probably the original one with 88k miles. I'm running 225's in the rear, Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3's with very little mileage on them. I'm figuring the tire compound has a lot to do with this peculiar behavior since they're a winter performance tread and compound but I thought the siping would help them grip better.

Back when my car was stock it could always chirp 2nd. On a cold day I could chirp 3rd. Now I get a lot of spinning in 2nd and a teeny bit of spin in 3rd.

Edit - is there a tranny code at all?

My n/a chirps into 2nd on z rated 225's... I'd be worried if your car couldn't.

Summer tires will light up easily. At 35 degrees (close to that in Columbus this morning) my stock 951 spins them like they're wet. It's borderline undriveable below that temp. Dunlop Gforce sports.

BTW, if its a 88K mile stock clutch and you're chirping the tires, plan a weekend of wrenching before long. Chirping is for automatics with shift kits. With the right flywheel, you can chirp a hyundai into 5th.
