Flywheel lock and timing belt
Is it necessary to use one when replacing the timing belt? Could have sworn I saw someone post that they did without. Any home made options if it is? Thanks.

Clarks says its possible but very difficult to get the belt back on past the balance belt gear on the crank. That means a few on here did it with great ease. I used the flywheel lock, but if you dont have one, its worth trying to sneak the belt back in there.

I live in Georgia. I appreciate the offer but will end up buying one. I might just try to do what the others have done and try to feed the belt. Anyone done it without a lock?

Flywheel lock is pretty much a must. You can probably get the belt past the balance shaft gear, but you risk damage to the belt and you don't want that sucker damaged!
Taking the bolt off the crank snout is pretty fun, too. I think it's torqued to something like ~150 ft/lbs.
