The keyed factory wheel locks are actually pretty easy to defeat. I won't put the details on here but I would say they are more for looks than anything. What I recommend is a locking nut that requires a special socket to remove. I think I have an extra set around. Will try to find it and post pics.

That said I think that 17" Porsche wheels would be a rare target just because of the limited market for them. With stock 16" wheels I wouldn't bother at all to lock them up.

Thanks Josh, looking forward to pics/links. I didn't know the factory locks were so vulnerable.

I suppose I should add that the only reason I know the factory locks are vulnerable is because I have purchased a couple parts cars that didn't come with a key for them....

I will order some that require a special socket. Josh, please let me know if you find them.

This sucks. Sorry for your pain and suffering. It looks like they know the car, at least 944/951, based on how they jacked it up and left it. I doubt they are for sale, they are probably on another early offset car by now.

I just got a call from the Police, they found a set of 4 rims and tires in the bushes right next to my building. I went and looked at them and they were 17 inch wheels with spacers on the back and worn tires. Didn't recognize the brand, but the cop said most likely they dumped them after replacing the wheels they stole from me.

Could mean they are local.

This is what I have in my collection. The ones on the right are the better ones and the keyed ones on the left are what came on the car stock. I have a collection of orphan OEM style locks and keys as well. In case anyone needs an extra key they are numbers 208, 247, 278, 307, 323, 386, 395. The improved ones can be purchased new from Automotion for $90 and cheaper other places.

One of the improved sets actually belongs on my car - better go put them on after this post I would sell you a set for $25 as a favor but I would imagine you would probably prefer a new set especially since the insurance company will spring for them most likely.

Nope, not Porsche wheels. I am guessing they did a complete swap right there. too odd to find 17 inch rims in the bushes right by my building.

that or it was a truck carrying wheels and they were wanting to swap the wheels with those crappy ones instead of leaving the car sitting on the ground. either way Im looking for a place to live in ATL (around uptown / midtown area) and would love to know where you live so that i might avoid it.

I wonder if they are VW wheels? You should take a pic if possible and post it - might help in tracking the guys down. The offset might be a clue too.

I'm sorry to hear about that, someone broke into my car a while ago and it's a horrible feeling.

Don't forget to check vw/Audi forums, those guys love using Porsche wheels on their car
