Default Brakes

Who is running setups OTHER than big red or Big black?

I am facing a longer than planned delay on my car build, and have decided that if it is to be delayed into the winter, I might as well start planning to do EVERYTHING while it is down.

This includes brakes, I am currently running stock 87 951 brakes, with the 944 online cross drilled rotor "kit". Brake feel has been good to me, with no noticeable brake fade during spirited street use. HOWEVER, the current upgrades will up the HP somewhat, and I am looking to earned value. Brakes need to be upgraded to match the HP and suspension upgrades..

However, I do not like doing whatever everyone else is doing..

Anyone running StopTech, Baer, AP Racing or other big brake kits on their 951, what is the use of your car, and how are your brakes performing for you?

I am considering Baer 6S Calipers, and was wondering if anyone out there in TV land has any relevant information.

We have used Brembo Monoblocks for years. "Big-What-Ever" are old fasihoned calipers. Why choose Stop-Ap-Baer-or-what-ever when good Brembo Monoblocks are available for good price. We developed about six years ago an adapter kit which allowes to install 4 or 6 piston fronts and 4 piston rear Monoblocks directly under 1987 951.

pictures especially for Patrick...

WOW. I'm not a quick enough driver on track to deserve brakes
that big!

Do you have a kit for an 86?

You've probably heard of other people doing this so it might fall under the "what others are doing" category, but it seems the LS430 Lexus brake caliper with Boxster S Rotor upgrade is popular with some of the 948 guys to handle the bump in ponies.

I have Stoptech on the front of my 944. This is not a kit from Stoptech so I adapted a few different parts from their bin. It uses ST-60 calipers from an old 350Z kit I had, 355mm rotors and Stoptech 964 Turbo hats. The caliper piston sizes on the 350Z spec ST60s are a good match for the original Porsche Brembos. Zeckhausen sells Stoptech parts individually. I used a 5/35 bias valve and retained the standard M030 rear calipers. The only custom part is 1 inch spacer blocks on the front to mount the calipers to the M030 spindles. Works well.

For what it's worth I'm using Turbo S front calipers and on the rear Turbo front calipers. They have larger pistons then the Turbo rears. I tried using the 5/35 bias but with the larger pistons in the rear they just locked up first on threshold breaking. I'm using slotted rotors from frozenrotors.com which are cheaper then stock Turbo S rotors and PFC pads for track 01 in front and 97 in rear along with ss braided and coated brake lines and 968 brake coolant ducts.

Absolutely Beautiful...

Could you PM details on availability and price?

PM on RW if you so desire.. Or post the info there, so it is free for all!

I like the idea or different than everyone else, and am doing a full modernization of my car, much as you guys have done over there..

FWIW, I think I have spent more for stuff from Finnland this year than anywhere else... OK, maybe Finnland has been adged out by Chris White, but not by much!

There we go, nice modern brake setup under one of our cars...

Thank you for the information...

Jason,

What rear rotors are you using with that set up?

I'm just waiting for my OE style rear rotors to die then I'll be moving to slotted from frozenrotor.

I heard that the Fins use Kossu in their coolant systems, great heat transfer....and if it breaks at the track you have a party!

...and they comb their hair with Salted Herring.

I know that a certain chap from a similar neck of the woods is moving up to a larger setup too. I'll let him 'brake' the news....sorry, bad pun.
